Nikon has been researching the association of smell and photos on people! And all you DSLR video haters thought 1080p development was draining Nikon resources! :^)

This is cool... Soon it will have smell with the videos!

It isn't that we hate video, it is just that we are frustrated that there seems to be no, minor, or few improvements with the still aspect of DSLR photography...

there are real problems that still exist with shooting stills that Nikon seems to have kinda stopped addressing since the D700 (not that the D3s isn't an amazing camera).

Nikon stopped addressing since the D700?! That's still a "new" camera kyoshi. How can they not be addressing something on a camera that's still being made?

If Nikon is working on "smell" recognition then I'm sure they'll be just fine figuring out video. But let's NOT turn yet another thread into the whole DSLR video sucks,DSLR video is awesome "debate". My remark was just for humor.

Going back to the original post Niko, although it is funny it is also true.
When I flick through the photos that I have taken long long time ago I can still smell the feeling of that moment when it was taken.

I guess that's the power of photograph.

this would be a very unfortunate feature for many photos I have taken.

Speaking of smells, Polaroid film has got to be the smelliest film EVAR! Not even the darkroom chemicals smell that bad.

I'll invite you to our next Robertito's $2.00 burrito night, but if you can't make it be sure to swing by for the "Come look at the size of this" afterparty.

    ..

    ■ By looking at a picture of a scene or location, 47 per cent of Britons can remember the scent associated with the photograph – this is according to an international study commissioned by Nikon (source).
    ..

Could I just remind everyone that this is an item of UK research. Its bull of course as the 47% likely responded that they smell mushy peas and kippers at every picture. UK researchers are a special breed, they are also masters at subtle humor, only they get paid by research grant. Could I point out that the quote refers to an international study ...yet the study group was Britons ..???

Countries earn a reputation, why Britons permits these research abuses is beyond me, it makes them look like a cross between fools and charlatans.

Ant you and I need to go drinking together some day! I'm interested in hearing more about your conspiracy theories but only while we're at the pub :^)

It WAS an international study commissioned by Nikon. The reason you only see the British percentages is because the website I linked to is British. So they were only reporting on those results. I'll see if I can find the whole report for you.

What do Australians smell like? ;^)

    Anyone seen the film 'idiocracy'
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/

I dont understand why it is catalogued in the comedy section when it is clearly a documentary.

    What do Aussies smell like?

Island spice and coconut oil but with winter on the way ...eucalyptus.
I happen to be haunted by a woman about the town that tells me I smell nice and that she wants to eat me. Usually I would just give a smile but have been told she and her husband Magilla Gorilla are well known swingers.
To make it worse, that night there was a documentary called 'American Swing' about the Plato's club. Lets just say that the ABC would not have aired it.

I was watching a movie on TV a couple of weeks ago. It was about Viet Nam, and showed footage in Saigon, now Ho Chi Minh City. I was quite surprised when I suddenly smelled what it smelled like. I was there from time to time over a period of several years, lived there a month or two. It was a very odd sensation to have the smell come back, and I cannot reproduce it now sitting here at the computer.
