Wow just wow! This is kind of like Chase Jarvis telling everyone he's giving up Nikon and buying a canon! Or how about Bob Krist showing up in a Sony DSLR campaign! I personally know many lifelong canuts who switched to Nikon D3 and D3S.

I forgot to mention that he's also deleting all of his previous canon gear reviews! And changing the name of his website from "canonfieldreviews" to Nikonfieldreviews. Wow he must really be pissed at canon! Or maybe Nikon showed him what they plan to unveil soon and he was so impressed he's switching now.

That's a powerful plug for Nikon. I hope he is truly switching for overall IQ and handling benefits of Nikon over Canon, and not just being pissed at Canon for not coming thru with equipment when he needed it. Whatever ... I agree with his decision to switch and applaud his balliness in making the very public switch.

Now lets wait for the autopsies.

No doubt there will be chatter from the Canon hangeroners and the rank and file www commentators that his dcision was somehow commercial and motivated by self-interest- that Nikon have lined his pocket more than what Canon did/might have. From what he has reported, he simply made the switch because Nikon has the equipment that enables him to take better pictures.

Wow, that is a big shift. Any time a high profile pro switch it is big news. Although I doubt this is as big as if Joe MacNally were to switch to Canon.

He mos of been very angry at Canon to switch over. I hope he doesn't delete the previous reviews as it was mention on the website.

It looked like a lot of people were sad about that.

I agree, it would be a loss. I wouldn't delete all the posts I've made on my blog about Nikon gear if I needed to switch to Canon or another brand.

    Whoa, that's earth shattering.

All the Canon nuts will go insane. I don't understand deleting the old reviews- you may not like Canon anymore, but what do the old reviews have to do with anything? We get that you hated Canon now that you've tried Nikon, but really?

That was a good read. I didn't know Canon uses a 1.3 crop even at their highest level cameras.

but seriously, I'm glad we have another ambassador, although doesn't like his attitude: "...First of all, I will do no more Canon field reviews, and I will delete all Canon field reviews from this site. .." - I can be pissed at one company or other, but why should I delete my work that brings me traffic to my webpage - that's soooo stupid.

I think it's the high ISO IQ that really bought him over.

And he got a bit lightheaded from that higher Altitude and not thinking clearly. Anyway OJL take a deep breath and get you mind going strait again, welcome to the dark side, but why do you have to piss off your past Canon Fans, then again you might have your reasons

Pete, you beat him by a couple of years, right? Canon Master sounds a bit like Sith Lord. Who will the new one be now that OJL defected? There are always two, right?

edit: I looked at his site again now that he removed the reasons for leaving Canon (along with the monkeys-playing-with-a-canon banner at the top of the blog), and I actually think it will be better for Nikon this way. Now everyone using a 1DsIV will be asking themselves, "What did Ole see that made him switch?!?!" ;-)

He explained this in his comments section.

He feels that it would look bad , that he's now sponsored by Nikon and still "advertises" for Canon by having those reviews up.

I think OJL just lost his credibility big time by removing his previous reviews. Even if Nikon is "officially" sponsoring him (more like a local Nikon distributor and not actually Nikon HQ) why would I want to read any of his Nikon field reports now? His "tantrum" is basically saying that any future Nikon review is going to be positive. Not because the product is great(we all know it's actually going to be awesome) but because Nikon is his "sponsor".

When I "switched" to Nikon I never got rid of my canon gear. I still use my AE-1 and my little SureShot. I am a photographer first and foremost. If it has an aperture and records an image, I'm interested regardless of the brand label on the outside.

Y'know guys, this sort of thing exists in all hobbies and wherever there is a choice to make. I run european motorcycles and a classic Triumph Bonneville - you should hear the things said about H-D's on the Britbike forum (agricultural tractors, Hardley Ablesons etc.).

I wonder how many switch from Nikon to Canon and when they do if it is reported here :D ?

I think it is interesting that he thinks the results were better so quickly though.

Looks like all the uproar of him taking down his previous canon reviews got to him. He put them all back up today and he removed all of the negative remarks toward canon. I also noticed that the European canon pro network website took down his articles.

Perhaps canon threatened him for "defamation"?

He was asking for something like that to happen, based on what he originally posted.
