I probably won't be upgrading though for at least another year.

Darn... you beat me to it.
I wonder what they will add. It already does so much. I'm hoping for some under the hood improvement for Macs. It can be a bit sluggish.

Lightroom 3 Beta 2 now available for download, too.

Im on Cs3 because I didn't want to pay 1000 bucks for a downgrade to Cs4. I'm both excited and have low expectations for Cs5 and hope it is better than Cs4

wondering when the mac version will be available? with cs4 it took them some time.

The most interesting new feature on Photoshop CS5

Absolutely amazing.

Now to find out if my CS4 plug-ins will work with CS5. I don't want to have to pay to upgrade the plug-ins as well.

CS4 plug-ins "should" be OK on CS5. But that really depends on what features the plug-ins use.

Adobe is moving to 64-bit only by next year (I think), so you're going to have to update more than your photoshop.

Not sure I understand what you mean pher? Are you saying photoshop CS6 is coming out next year? I doubt that. Adobe releases new version usually every two years (18 to 24 months). CS4 is already 64-bit for windows users while CS5 is supposedly going to be 64 for Macs too.

That content-aware fill is pretty impressive. I'm getting a headache thinking about what kind of algorithms it would take to do that.

Wow I was really surprised by this announcement actually. Am I wrong in thinking that CS4 was not released too long ago? Seeing as how I had to re-install my entire operating system just so I could install CS4 (absolute nightmare) I don't think I'll be upgrading to CS5. Great program though I am happy with CS4 and using Lightroom 2.0...

CS4 came out in 2008. Time flies don't it? It was a big disappointment for Adobe. It didn't sell as well as they had hoped. That's why CS5 has to have new "gotta have" features like the new content aware stuff.

if only it will work as above, will wait some time to see it in action before I upgrade

that content aware stuff is pretty bizarre.
Not sure how I feel about it to be honest. I'm not a big fan of manipulation in general, especially of removing things, but this takes it to an absolutely new level. Of course that's if it works as this video shows, hah.Posted 3 years ago # -
They already had content aware stuff in CS4, and I have been playing with the gimp version of that recently. Great fun! But the CS5 ones are a bit smarter.. should take a few months for the Gimp versions to come out :-) Check out the Liquid rescale libry for gimp. I was so excited the first time playing with that. :-) The link below explains the algorythem. After you understand that, you can kinda see how the CS5 version got extended and made easy.

Yeah content aware was introduced in CS4 but for CS5 they really turned it up to "eleven". It really does work like in the above video. I'm sure you'll have to clean things up a bit though.
If you notice in the video he never zooms all the way into the area he fills. If you zoom in more you'd probably see an outline of where the removed object had been. Still blending it all together to make it look flawless is an easy fix too. It just takes a few more steps and brush strokes. No big deal.

Thanks, hearty. I watched that video this morning and forgot to thank you for the link.
You're right about going to 11, Niko. I need that.

lol "why not make 10 louder?" " .... ...... these goes to eleven." haha!
Good one !Posted 3 years ago # -
Adobe is supposed to cease 32-bit support by 2011. If you're doing any amount of post you should be on a 64-bit OS anyway.

wow 2008 yes time sure does fly that was also when Nikon released my D700. Might be 2018 until they give the public the D700x or D700s or whatever its called..

Actually, I think I've almost got her convinced we need an upgrade soon. She loses patience with lightroom taking a few seconds to generate a preview ('Why are these all out of focus?!' 'You just have to wait for our slow computer to bring up the full size preview. You know, if we had a few more gigs of RAM...' I just won't mention that those gigs can only be talked to by a new machine). Now I've just got to get her to learn photoshop. I'm pretty sure that using that would push her over the edge.

It looks awesome! I have already started buying computer parts to build myself a new desktop system for photo and video editing. I have been using an old 1.5ghz Pentium M laptop with PS CS2 for years now. Its time to upgrade. I just wish they would release the official system requirements so I can finish buying parts.
