I have purchased a D3S (back-ordered) and want to know a few things:

    1. What is the file size on a raw pic on a 12mp camera?
    2. How big have you seen 12mp cameras pics blown-up without noise?

What is a reccomended setting for landscape shots for a 8x10?

Thanks to everyone. I have really enjoyed reading past post.

On a D3 you get roughly the following

    NEF Lossless compressed, 12-bit 13.3MB
    NEF Lossless compressed, 14-bit 16.3MB
    NEF Compressed, 12-bit 11.0MB
    NEF Compressed, 14-bit 13.8MB
    NEF Uncompressed, 12-bit 18.8MB
    NEF Uncompressed, 14-bit 24.7MB
    TIFF (RGB Large/8-bit), Uncompressed, 35.9MB
    JPEG (Large/Fine), 5.7MB

    Your mileage my vary.

Corellary to above question -- Does anyone "see" any difference in printed images between lossless compressed NEFs and uncompressed NEFs? I always shoot uncompressed, as you never know what the additional info in the file may give you in the future that's not available now.
