I was planning on buying the Nikkor 14-24mm. . . .so I could switch between DX and FX. . .now I am pre-ordered for the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8, which can be used on DX and I can get away with FX use at 16mm only, for about $567 (add $100 for a filter to, which the 14-24 didn't have). . .had the 14-24mm not gone up $300, I would've pounced on it!
Oh well. . .Nikon's screwing it all up, raising prices everywhere will deter almost everyone.

I had been planning on buying several lenses over the course of the year (converting from old film cameras to new equipment) but with the price increase coming, I decided to choose just one lense, then sit back and wait. I bought the 105 Micro just before the price increase.

The price increase made me buy a D3!
I caught the last of December's stock at the old price; I paid £1000 less than the current UK RRP.

I'm with warprints. I had been looking at a couple of lenses, as well as some accessories, but based on my budget and the price increases I think I'm going to have to throttle back to just one lens later this year.

I was all set to grab the 85/1.4 but the current prices are obscene. I'm also looking to get the D300 but come on!

I wound cheaping out on the 105mm VR Micro-Nikkor, once B&H hiked the price to what it is today. But I decided to go there to get a Sigma 150mm Macro... I wound up leaving with a Micro-Nikkor 200mm f/4 IF, for about a third of the price of the 105mm VR.
So, It positively affected my decision. I wound up getting a much more durable lens, than I would've otherwise, that I can use w/ my extension tube, for a fair amount less.

Hasn't affected me, but then I live in Japan. D300 is dropping in price by 200 yen a day at the moment (roughly $2). You can track the price here by going to http://kakaku.com/item/00490711094/ and clicking on the line graph. I imagine if Nikon starts pulling stock it would show up here first, either as big reductions or total diappearance.

I postponed my plan of buying the 220 VR...Anyway, it is a good time to utilize current lenses before running out of cash...:p

I was about to snag a D200 @ $1,330 but thought the post holidays blues would bring about a further price drop to bring it in line w/ the 40D, but noooooooo.
So I bought a D200 and am on the edge of plunking for a 40D, then call it the decade, since I feel I am all set for many moons.
Affordability was a non issue, but got pissed off at having my pockets picked and loyalty taken advantage of.
THE END

You mean a D300 right?

It rushed me to buy a 70-200mm VR and 24-70mm, for both compared today, I would pay 1000+ e Euros more. But with the lack of Euros, I missed the D3 :'( now it's about 30% more expensive and I have a decision to make, wait or buy now..

I was about to buy the D3 - and instead I rushed out and got me a 70-200 vr - and I'm pleased with this decision. Also managed to sell some of my old lenses for more than I would expected two months ago. However, if the prices will stay at its levels I'll postpone my other camera spendings this year.

It causes me to buy the 24-70mm f/2.8 far earlier than I had originally planned. (Got the 35mm f/2 in Dec. as a stop-gap for good normal-range IQ, was originally thinking of getting that one April/May.) Glad I did jump the gun, since the current B&H price is about $300 more than I paid.

You mean a D300 right? "Right you is . My bad. Thanks. T'was the hour when I needed a 3rd pair of eyes ....and a few more active neurons could have come in handy - obviously. 8?).
Today's D300 $1600ish, buys a D200 body and a Canon 40D with a 28-135 IS ... and perhaps 1-2 4GB cards!!!

Admin, please fix the board. Words/letters are falling off my posts!!!
The word/letters NEEDED fell off the post above. It should have read: "T'was the hour when I NEEDED a 3rd pair of eyes". I know it was fine when I post it.... hee hee hee.
Thanks..... 8?)
BTW, why isn't "EDIT" available this evening - friday night? T'was a feature earlier in the day & yesterday ?!?! Tks.

Hmmm .... EDIT is visible on the post I just made, but not earlier one, even though I refreshed this page as well as checked other couple of pages with my posts.
To be clear: I am speaking about EDIT not being visible, on earlier posts, while logging in and refreshing respective pages. If it is not a board setting/feature, perhaps an interaction quirk between the board and the browser !?!?

Yes, not only has the recession provided me reason to pause, the inflationary tactics that Nikon choose to pursue have discouraged me from buying.
Some indicators suggest that we may be in for a period of significant inflation, which some people would love to see again to ride the wave.

1: I bought the new 50mm 1.4 quickly without seeing many reviews a couple of days before the price-hike.
2: Even though I was waiting for the II version - I certainly wasn't going to buy the 70-200 after it went up from about £1000 to £1400, even though I wanted it.
