Help! Under Price watch it suggests to wait to purchase a D90. Does this mean that a new model is going to be announced? Once this forum suggests to wait to buy an item. How long (on average) is a new model released? Thanks for the help!!

I wouldn't read too much into that. It's the administrator's recommendation based on the number of rumors of a replacement he has heard. The D700 has been tagged as -wait- for months. Even if a D90 replacement were announced soon, it would cost more than the D90 does now.

Thanks jonnyapple... Typically, once somthing hits the "wait" list. How long usually before an announcement?

Unless admin has undisclosed rumors, I think the D90 (at $780)is an easier decision than buying a D300s ($1520). I think the D300s is a D300 revised to the D90 generation (added video). I would imagine they'll both be replaced when the next generation DX sensor is available.

Really no one knows, photocrazy. If admin knew the D90 was about to be replaced I suspect it would be posted front and center in big, bold type on the blog. It's really just his suggestion. I think the D90 has been on -wait- since December or a little before. Admin says it best next to the asterisk on the price watch page:
* – Please note that sometimes it is a smart decision to buy an old model because of the cost savings. The above advisory is based on rumors of upcoming products and nothing else.
That's what Ted is saying, too. If you're looking at getting a D90 (or D5000), I'd just get one because they are a great value right now.
Edit: Ted, I think you're right they'll both get replaced sometime soon and the further we get from the D300s release the more I'm convincing myself that Nikon might update them with a single camera by lowering the cost of their top-of-the-line DX model. I figure they won't release them simultaneously with the same sensor in them, the D90 is due for replacement first, and they also probably won't replace the D90 with a higher-resolution sensor than the D300s.

I agree Jonny. I would expect an enhanced sensor D400, followed quickly by a D95 with the same sensor, 95% finder, etc. I don't think Nikon could roll them into one camera. I like the idea of having one that's larger, more robust and weather resistant and another that's smaller, lighter and cheaper.

d90 replacement should be in the market this year, I wouldn't see much improvement - probably Full HD video and a swivel screen, wouldn't expect a revolution, rather evolution.

Yes, I do not have any reliable info about a D90 replacement - the recommendations are based on previous release patterns: this line is refreshed every 2 years.
