II have never used this lens stoped up yet till doing some long exposures at F16+ for nightime cityscapes. I got back to the hotel room to discover that there is about a hundred spots of dust and hair on the lens. the back and front elements are perfectly clean. The Uv filter is a little dirty but i did sample shots with and without and made no difference. there is no problem at 2.8 or 4. But at 5.6 there is a particial out of focus dust spots. Its more defined at F8. And fully covered by F16 and 22. I have never noticed this till now.

turns out its My sensor on my D3. I first used the lens on my D90 and didnt have the problem. thats when i used a 50 1.4 on the D3 and it had the exact same problems. i guess the sensor is dirty although there was practically NO visiable dust on the sensor

I use a pinhole lens with app f200 to discover if their are any small specs of dust on my sensor, but any lens closed down should show you if you have a dusty sensor.

just clean Your sensor, or send it for cleaning. there's no way You could see a hair if it was in Your lens.
