    Hello people!

First time poster here so be nice! I joined this forum as I have been scouring the internet trying to find information to solve a dilemma I am having. I currently shoot on an aged Nikon D200. I have been saving up money to replace the D200 with a D700. I really want to move onto a full frame sensor. The lenses I currently have are: 50mm 1.4, and my amazing 24-70 2.4. Now here comes the dilemma. I have now decided that HD video is a must for my next upgrade. I am faced now with swapping out all my gear to switch to a 5D Mark ii. I went into a shop today to demo one. I must say I HATE the way the 5DMarkii feels. It just feels poorly built to me. The dials are too clicky and feel too light. However the video it shoots is hard to ignore. Absolutely stunning! But I love my Nikon Lenses... And from my research the FX Sensor is superior to the Canon Sensor. Someone please tell me that I should wait for the next full frame body to come out from Nikon because it will have 1080P video. When is this likely to happen? I wish that someone from Nikon could give me the info I needed or else lose a longtime user! Uhhhg.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

    Regards,
    Brad

There's no point switching to a camera you hate the feel of, regardless of whether it's a Nikon, Canon, Leica, or a Rolleiflex.

Wait for the D700 replacement for a bit longer, the D200 is an awesome camera anyhow.

In terms of those plasticy-click wheels that canon seems to love, I shot a 1951 Rollei all day yesterday and the fluidity of the winding lever and adjustment dials was just fantastic, not a sliver of plastic on the thing.

I can't understand people who own superb equipment and are still not happy with it. Trust me, if you switch you'll regret because you'll miss your 24-70, which is indeed a superb lens. I also tried 5d mii in a shop - I couldn't even figure out how to view a photo, it's a nightmare to use. If you need video badly, why not buy a superior hand held HD camera??

I did buy an HD camcorder, and a DOF adapter from Letus35. It works ok, but very hard to negotiate. And the sensor on camera I got just is NO GOOD in low light. I really, really like my Nikon gear. I cannot even imagine the hassle of selling off all of my Nikon gear, but I have been waiting for the HD vid for so long now. What are they thinking? I still don't even understand why they released the D3s with 720P video!

Whoahh.. Easy Tiger. My point is I don't want to switch. I love my Nikon stuff. I am just praying they catch up in the video side of things soonish.

Go ahead and switch, Nikon doesn't need flip floppers.

Man oh man... I came here looking for an adult conversation, and to possibly get involved in a community of like minded people. Don't give me advice like Nikon is some sort of religion. I am not "flip flopping". I love my Nikon gear man. Read. I was simply asking what peoples opinions were as to when Nikon will go full HD. I stated its important to me for my next upgrade.

If you don't like the thread why post. Go away troll.

Seriously... I am just legitimately interested in knowing peoples opinions on the outlook of Nikons full frame+1080P prospects.

Again, I agree... I love my equipment... (However really want the full full frame). I could not bare the thought of losing my 24-70. But I can just imagine using my 24-70 to shoot HD video. Mmmmmm. And in regards to the "superior hand held HD cam" They just can't rock the DOF the way the dSLR's with HD video can.

I know that I could update to a D700 and be very happy shooting with my FX lenses. In fact I have a deposit on one at my local camera shop. I just came onto this "Rumors Forum" to find out if there was any info on a full HD FX body coming to a Nikon Retailer near you.

Thanks again to those who can give any valuable information, or advice.

Oh Maddiee laddy don’t judge us too harshly. We all go to bad at night repeating the mantra of all the reasons why Nikon is better then Canon, and we all wake up from time to time all sweating from a horrible dream that there is a Canon that is actually a bit better then Nikon. Think of all the frustrations and try to understand our point of view ;)

I don't know if this is the place for you to get objective advice.

I have never shot with Canon's SLRs but I use the G10 and I can't say anyting bad about its feel or operation. The menus and functions took some time to get used to but once I did thay are ok.

I own Nikon glass and I am waiting for a full frame Nikon update too. If you switch I think the initial first weeks will be awkward, but I am sure you will get used to the feel and operation. Its like comparing a Nissan with a Honda, different. Lets face it a lot of people shoot Canon. How bad can they be?

Thank you for the polite reply. That is more like it.

I guess I was just hoping that people could give me some sort of idea whether the full HD would become a reality for Nikon Users in the near future is all.

I know that is asking people to be clairvoyant... Just thought i would as since it was a rumors forum.

Honestly MaddleBrad, you do what you need to do. If you need video now, you really have no choice but to switch to Canon, they seem to have implemented it better.

If you can wait, then do so if you want to stay with Nikon and see what they come up with.

We know nothing about what Nikon could come up with, so we really can't help.

1080P is coming... When? Who knows. If you desire better video now, then get a Canon. If not, wait for the NIkon press releases just like we do.

I'm not trolling, I just get sick and tired of listening to people whine and bitch about 1080P not available on a NIkon DSLR.

Your D200 is a fine camera, just be patient and wait.
1080P will not make you a better photographer, will it?

Also, your thread title sucks. ;)

Nothing wrong with the thread title, give the guy a break.

Honestly if I was going to shoot video with a DSLR I would get a Canon. I'm tempted to grab a T2i and a decent wide-mid range lens just for video, and landscape shots. Why? Canon has experience in video, after all they have been making video cameras for how long now, 20+ years or something like that? For everything else, Nikon all the way.

    Hi Brad, dis may help.

I own a Nikon D300s and very happy with it. I have 5 wedding this year (family & friends) and i will be doing photo and video on 3 of them. I have 2 friends who will be helping.

Now Iam thinking of getting Canon 550D to do HD video. I also have a Sony PMW-EX1R. i want to use 550d just as backup and 2nd cam.

Keep your D200 and all the lens. Just get 550d. Nikon cams do take better photos but canon take better HD videos, so if you want to do some HD video work get 550D or even 7D for a bit more. Dont spend 3grand on 5dmrk11.

    Hope this helps.

I say stay with the D200 until a D700 replacement. I think the chances of it not being 1080p and not coming out this year are both very slim. If you've got things that you absolutely must film before then, I think you should use the camcorder you bought or buy a D90 and then sell that off when the D700 replacement comes out—that would at least let you avoid changing lens systems. If you need 1080p right now, it's going to cost you even more but Canon would be the way to go.

Maddie what kind of reaction do you expect when your first post in a NIKON forum is to tell everyone you want a canon camera?! It also doesn't help you to make friends when you start calling senior forum members Trolls.

If the true purpose of your post is to find out when Nikon will have a full HD camera then change your title so that YOU don't come across as a troll.

Nikon will eventually offer "full" HD video in it's DSLRs. The P100 offers it now so go buy one if you absolutely have to have 1080 and a Nikon camera. You don't need permission from anyone around here as to how to spend your money. Buy what meets your needs today if you are unwilling to wait.

An4cer if you think this forum has too many A@#$ then don't come here. I can see where this thread is going and I think maddie has had enough suggestions to where she can make her own decision.
