Yeah...i just gave my D200 to my daughter thinking the "new" D700 would be out soon but now it's looking like we won't see an updated version till next year. So I'm stuck with nice glass and no body :(
Is there a new D700 coming?

. . . I just gave my D200 to my daughter thinking the "new" D700 would be out soon but now it's looking like we won't see an updated version till next year . . .I've been thinking the same thing, especially after reading the "D3100" and "D95" rumors posted here on NR. How much things change in a month! I was so ready to buy that D700 refurb (and, maybe I should have). But the D700's presumed, two-year product life cycle scared me off the purchase. Then I got distracted thinking about the D3s. But I didn't want to invest in one of Nikon's top-of-the-line bodies until Nikon had integrated 1080p24 video into at least one of its FX bodies, which most agree, is likely inevitable--it's just a matter of time. But, if any new FX-body Nikons are introduced this year, I'll be very surprised.
So, I'm thinking Nikon will probably add 1080p24 capability to their entire DX-line, and leave the entire FX-line as is, at least until first or second quarter, 2011. With a possible D700 upgrade or model replacement with 1080p24 capability, first, relegating their high-end, 720p-only, D3s for sale only to the pro stills market, for as many more quarters as possible.

I have a feeling the D700 will be updated by the end of this year. It's just a hunch—I have no inside information, just an idea that Nikon wouldn't want to disappoint the pros. Then again, maybe it will be all lenses instead. Also, I had a feeling that the D700 would be updated to a D700s in Q1 2010. ;-)

I do think that Nikon will release D700s in 19 August 2010
last time D3000 come with D300s
So, Why this time not D700s with D3100?

I received a email on Aug 5th from NPS for a free seminar
NPS, Video, 100 people, IMO, this could be a sneak peek of a 700 w/ video

Looking at the timeline of the releases of the last handful of DSLR's, it's not out of the question that a 700 replacement and a D90 replacement might both be in the immediate future. The 90, according to Wikipedia (I know, I know; you wanted me to quote KR instead?), rolled out on 27 July and the 700 on 1 August of 2008, so it's not so far-fetched that a 3100, a 700x (or some such) and a 95 could all rear their lovely little heads before the year's out.

Thanks, Picturepro! By the way . . . nice work on your website! I especially like the fill-flash at sunset shots!

I cannot wait for a D700 replacement; not for wanting a "better" D700, but for the sure influx of D700's into the used market as soon as there is an official replacement announced. I am sure that there will be many clean, lightly used D700's available for less than they are currently selling for by those that just "have" to have the "latest and greatest". Their loss will be my gain, and I will add another D700 to my bag for a reasonable sum.

Now, I'm not sure I can wait!
I shot the image shown below last Saturday on my Nikon D90 at 400 ISO. Admittedly, the image degradation, I'm sure, is also due to compression artifacting from not shooting RAW. However, the noise level in my D90 in high-chroma scenes (e.g., "magic hour" blue sky), even as low as 100 ISO, is unacceptably high for large, gallery-size prints. Now I'm hesitant to shoot any more "keepers" with my DX body.
I'm hugely tempted to buy the current, two-year old, D700 body, which I really, really don't want to do because I also want to shoot 1080p24 video with manual control. But, I probably should've just bought that D700 refurb for $2,100 so I could contiinue shooting higher quality images now. Even if I buy a D700, this will just be an interim body, to tide me over until the next D3s replacement (the body I really want). But I don't expect a D3s replacement until next Photokina (2011), at the earliest. Hope I'm wrong, and I sure hope Nikon does announce a new FX-body, come September.

If I buy a D700 now, would I lose out if a D700 replacement came out the next day?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Every new model is in some respect better than the previous one so you will definitely miss out on something or other. However in the meanwhile you would lose a lot more in temrs of photos you are not taking. And by the looks of it "the next day" could arrive some time next year.

Used D700 only last a day of FS. The D700 will not drop in price, fantastic camera for two years. Still plenty of people who will jump on a slightly used D700 before buying a new D800?

Can't say that for a used D3 or D3s. . .

D700 out of stock at best buy, eh? Didn't they discontinue it last year, too? :-(

I just gotta hold it together until . . .

I can't wait to get the "full value" out of my AF Nikkor 14mm f/2.8D and 18mm f/2.8D lenses as well! Plus, on a full-frame camera, that new AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm f/4.0 VR sure is tempting! But damn, that thing is huge!
Posted 2 years ago # -
It's huge, but certainly not as big and weighty as the 24-70 or 70-200!!
The best part of going full frame has been composition for me - WYSIWYG, love it. Well that and shooting at ISO 6400 isn't a disaster. . .

Interesting D700 rumor from a French site. It's originally sourced from a Chinese site, so I'm a bit skeptical, but here's the link (like me, you'll probably need Google Translate, unless you happen to speak French):

I think the specs are believable, ASD, although I don't believe that's a picture of it as there's no microphone holes in the body and they claim it shoots video.

Can anyone comment on the specs on the sensor? Do they make sense? If true, I am so there! A 1080p24-enabled, "D800," releasing this year, would be a dream (finally) come true.

I have waited for the D700 replacement for a long time. The problem is that initially it will be very pricey. I hope it was worth the wait. In the meantime I have used the D200, D90, D300, D700 and got photos that were important to me. The only Nikon DSLR we no longer use is the D100. As my first DSLR I am reluctant to sell it and it is not going to get anything if I did sell it. My D70 worked good until it got lost in a river in ALaska for 33 days. The capture card images were still great! Our D40X has had issues with dust on the low pass filter and I have not been able to blow them off with gear that has worked say with the D100. My wait for D700 replacement I admit is video which I feel is something I rarely use but at times it is the only way to depict something. One subject I have done a lot is big salmon and trout in clear water and without movement a single frame is darn near worthless as the water and waves all kind of wiggle whereas the videos are much better. I have photographed maple sugaring for about 40 years and video adds much there as well. To see images of evaporator steam rolling from a sugarhouse in a snowy scene really does capture an important dimension. We are though not just using Nikon DSLR for video but the D90 video has been fastest to use of all of our video gear.
