Alright so I have a question regarding lens hoods.
What's a difference if any between a flower type hood and a bayonet type hood.
Nikon HB 7 vs HB 29
I just acquired Nikon 80-200 2.8 AF-D. So I need a lens hood. However I stumbled upon an adapter to be used for this lens which would allow one to use the lens hood ( HB 29) on this lens. It is worth the effort of buying more crap to use this flower type hood?
Ok. First off, both the HB7 and the HB29 are bayonet lens hoods. One is a petal hood (flower) and one is not. The petal shape is so that the hood shades the lens as best as possible, without encroaching into the angle of view when the lens is set to a wide angle (petal hoods are found on zoom lenses). I do not have this lens (or access to one) and cannot tell you whether the petal hood would be usable without encroaching on the field of view. Just looking at the lens (online) and the hood, I would be concerned.
Yeah sorry about confusion. You can see that I am confused as hell.
I always just buy the original hoods, that Nikon prescribes. But I was was intrigued by this.
Although the default hood is the bayonet barrel for the 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-D the adapter has it's uses.
The main differences are that the bayonet barrel blocks out more stray light than the flower petal which also can reduce aberrations, flaring, flooding, and even ghosting but the downside is that it is much more likely to vignette than the flower petal
