My name is Niko Doby and I AM NIKON!

Hasn't this whole I AM campaign been done to death already? Very unoriginal!

GJ Niko. I agree - I think there was no effort put into this. And beyond that it's in a mindset that their target audience for these announcements (coolpix) are less likely to respond to. I feel like this is a failed attempt to go viral.

Actually the whole Nikon BIG announcements this year have been one long SAD "all about nothing" and the latest I am Nikon is hopefully the last straw and whoever was in charge got fired

    Pete

BTW the I am Nikon Flickr account is actual not bad

yeah, but didn't I see it posted somewhere that by posting in that group you are giving nikon permission to use your photo, etc. I don't want to spread rumors so if someone has the facts on this (not just "I don't think Nikon would do that, so I'm going to tell foofie he is wrong") please correct me, as hopefully whoever wrote that before was misinformed.

EDIT: so officially I guess the case is you are giving them the right to use it, but only in the context of their "I am Nikon" campaign. and they are supposed to credit and link back to you as well, so not terrible, still something to know before you submit, if you are ok with it, then sounds good!

I do hope Nikon doesn't disappoint us this year, particularly with new lenses. Whether 100-500/4.5-5.6 AFS VRII, 85/1.4 ASF VRII or 300/4 AFS VRII, Nikon needs updates to maintain lens superiority. New bodies with more MP and better IQ are always nice too, but Nikon's current cameras are still my choice over any others.

If I only can understand what is this I am NIKON about ?

I was waiting for Nikon's announcement that some DSLR'S are coming out, or so was rumored!
But nothing happen. Nikon is getting on this habit to disappoint it's costumers. I don't know about you guys but I am getting pissed off with them. It seems that they don't care about keeping costumers informed with their new line up of cameras.

I think they lost the plot and they are hiding behind the slogan that we are going to surprise the market. I wonder with what ? A camera that takes the perfect picture.

So disappointed, I cant describe it on words.

    Well it's officially official now.

Funny thing is that someone has already put a I am canon thread in the I am Nikon flickr pool! :^) I'm surprised it hasn't been deleted yet by the Nikon moderators.

Why are you pissed? Nikon never promised anything to us. Just because you read a rumor doesn't mean it'll come true. That's why it's just a rumor. I'd be pissed if Nikon said, "we will have a D800 at PMA" and then they said, "nope we decided to wait". You have no reason to be "pissed" because Nikon didn't say anything about a new DSLR.

Don't worry though, they will be announcing new cameras this year and all will be well again.

I'm not pissed but I am disappointed. It seems kind of self-indulgent of Nikon to have a giant campaign culminating in a double press event (inviting all the press, etc.) to simply announce something like this, which is basically...nothing.

    NIko !

That is the problem with NIKON, The silence. I don't know whether is their marketing strategy or don't know what they are doing until their perfect something what they already doing it. But for the last 2 years that I have been following up the development of the technology in DSLR, NIkon is lacking on the information or announcement department, which ever way you want to call it?

If you Google anything regarding any NIKON DSLR product all you get is rumors blogs like NR or any other enthusiastic web pages, or maybe I didn't find them.

Even if you contact Nikon direct for any information all you get is same response for any other question.

If you check any other products like Canon, Sony, Panasonic, etc you get enough information on what they are doing. They don't give you dates but information is there for you to understand that they are doing something about it.

On the other hand all we hear from Nikon is that they are going to surprise us with something.

all the information regarding Nikon I get it form here and from you lovely people that you share info and tip regarding anything, which by the way i THANK YOU ALL.

That's why NIKO i am a bit pissed off at NIKON, not because they are promising anything and not delivering but for not sharing with us their upcoming plans and product outlines. They can keep their secret because they are in a competition with so many companies out there but some information wont hurt.

I don't understand what you mean Kyoshi? Are you talking about the Nikon MX medium format rumor? The BIG announcement was an ad for WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) and not PMA. Nikon never said it was going to be a new camera. They only advertised the BIG Event in small ads in Rangefinder magazine and not in full page ads or websites like the "I am" campaign. The BIG Event turned out to be a free concert for WPPI members and nothing more.

valonqe, that's pretty naive of you to think Nikon is the only company that keeps things silent. Why not call Apple and tell them you want to know when the ipad 2 is going to be coming out because you don't like the ipad. I'm sure they'd be happy to tell you.

Nikon will reveal when they are good and ready to. In the mean time I'm happy shooting with the cameras they have now.

Anyway I wonder if this "I am" campaign signals the end of Ashton Kutcher's contract. Though this campaign is only for Europe, I wonder what comes next for the USA.

Of course I am happy with my camera too Niko and I am shooting every time I get the chance.

Even with apple I'm sure people have their complaints, as we all do with our lives.

That's why we have these blogs do discuss about any thing whether is naive or not. You may be happy with Nikon, unfortunately I'm not. And before you say any thing else I know there are other DSLR cameras that I can buy if I want to, but again that's not the point as I did to buy the 7D for business purposes. I still have my D300s and lovin it every moment. IF there was a NIKON DSLR that offered me what 7D is offering I would of bought it by now.

All I was trying to say was that Nikon is not informing me as a costumer on what they are developing in terms of their product. That's how I feel simple.

There is nothing to do with nativity her NIko.
Thanx for keeping the comets going

What does the D300S lack that the 7D has. Besides HD video?

After using the 7D for a few weeks I still prefer the D300S without question.

D300s lacks 18Mpix sensor, and ISO performance is about the same (DXO mark gives some advantage to 7D over D300s in Low-Light ISO), and 7D has 8 FPS without a grip.
The only advantage D300s has is two cards slots, and it is a Nikon so it is easier to use for most people.

Well, Full HD, differnt frame rate, manual control, also the 18m chip which it seems important to a lot of people. Personaly I didn't mind how many pixels had my camera as much as I need it that firmware for the D-MOVE.

Nikon didn't see as problem so they ignored it which it turned to be a big mistake because they lost so many new costumers even the once that hade bought Nikon D90.

I had to by the 7D not for the photography but for the video where. I could of spend those money that I bought the 7D to buy few nikon lenses and give NIKON more money.

I had to buy the 7D because Nikon didn't bring the firmware that I've requested from them 4 times through e-mails. To make the matter worse was their answer. I got the exact response from them as if it was copy and paste from another request.

It wasn't just me that requested the firmware. Nikon knew about the D-MOVIE firmware since the release of D90 but did nothing about it, not even simple statment to say that we are working in to it.

I also thing that Nikon is by far a better photo camera then Canon but in terms of video Nikon is by far behind.

    regards

Which is amazing to me that a camera with "only" 12mp can hold it's own against a camera with 6 more megapixels! All you 12mp haters remind me of the time all the haters were crying about the D2H(S) "only" having 4mp when canon had cameras with 6 and 8mp.

So enough about what valonqe wants and let's get back to discussing Nikon's new campaign.

As unoriginal as I think this is, I'd still prefer it over Ashton Kutcher's uninspiring ads

You are so old school, Niko.

(actually, the first time I saw an "Ashton's Nikon..." website, I had to go read the wikipedia page about him because I had never heard of him. true story)

It's not jut me that requested that Niko but a lot other people as well. But any way lets get back to the subject because you and me Niko can argue for days and would change my mind about how I feel about Nikon lately.

Remeber that I to am a NIkon user and I think that this blog is set for us to discuss and coment about our cameras and many, many more.

    I am waiting...

Not for the next DSLR, but for the D700 I ordered. I thought about waiting, but do want to upgrade my current DX camera and the concern that the D700 upgrade will come out at a street price of $1,000 higher than the current D700 made me decide to pull the trigger now.

As for "pre-announcements" of upcoming possible products, that falls in line with Microsoft's FUD campaigns of the last 20 years. Spread rumors, leaks and press releases stating that you are coming out with a game changer "very soon". That locks up those who don't know what they really want/need while the company tries to figure out what they are really going to do.

I prefer to look at the current market and see if a product fits my current needs. If not, then wait until one does, if there is something that fits then get it. Don't sit around navel gazing trying to determine of the bis version will have something you didn't even know you needed.

So my new camera made it to Des Moines, IA this morning...

    I am waiting.

Ashton Kutcher was only a marketing campaign in the USA wasn't it? Before this "Iam" campaign started, what kind of Nikon marketing did you Europeans get?
