In capture NX, when I try to open one of any of my NEF files taken with the D90, it says it cannot load them. What the hell?

easy one.. open NX and go to HELP>CHECK FOR UPDATES>
after it opens us, toward the top there is the "My Products tab"
check to see if you have the D90 checked off.cheers.

yea I hate that the d90 has a specific file type that requires an update. I needed to update all my schools computers in order for them to work with CS4

I checked the box, both boxes actually for both of my cameras. No updates were available and the D90's NEF files still won't load. Guess I'll be shooting JPEG until I figure this out.
Last night I even downloaded the NEF codec and still nothing.

You need to have NX version 2.1 or above to use NEFs from D90

NEF codec does not have anything to do with and is not used by Capture NX.
Adobe Photoshop CS3 is working with D90 NEF files, the only thing you have to update is CameraRaw.
Every new camera has to be supported by a NEF decoder used by your software, so you will need a new version every time you buy a new camera.
Adamz is right, you need to have Capture NX version 2.1 or above to use NEFs from D90, or CameraRaw 4.6 or above if using Photoshop.Posted 4 years ago #
