@RX4 thanks for the advice, I've added it in my "good ideas" list. Simple, yet very effective.

From my "House of Representatives" series...
Incidentally...the background color was chosen to "get lost".... In shots with the white/light background, it places the subject into a "setting" defined by the "high key" background which tends to be more elegant. I wanted these shots to have only the individual as the point of interest and keep things very simple.
Maybe my next series will have black backgrounds...??

Yes, a high key white (Peter Hurley type) background wouldn't suit these subjects. "moto knows photo!"

Blocked shot.
D800, 80-200 f2.8 lens, f4, 1/500th sec, ISO-6400. I would rather have had a D4 but don't so I am pressing my D800 into service for sports photography.

The previous shot of mine featuring the close-up of the varied thrush was the result of the bird hitting my living room window and subsequently laying on the front lawn in a daze for about ten minutes. The thrush eventually flew off seeming no worse for wear

Great use of the foreground in your shot, adam.

Thanks Mike, Your shot really rocks, one of the best heron shots I've ever seen. Beautiful work... need to get this damn lens :)

I have looked and thought hard about this image. Yes, it's a bit out of focus and lacks a lot in composition perhaps. But to me this IS the subjects world as a street person in NYC. I chose to leave the person's hand in the frame at left and highlighted the cell phone with selective color. To me this just firmly contrasts the life on the street to the life of the passerby. Taken near Macy's on 34th Street. I hope you find it interesting.

That there is a thinking image Pippigurl, it gets the viewer thinking. Nice. No, great.

@Pippigurl - I have mixed feeling about this photo. I like the contrast and the technical issues really doesn't bother me that much. What bothers me is just the hand with iphone I see, I would love to see more - like 1 second earlier more. Though, I agree with spraynpray that it's a thinking image.

Thanks to both of you. I could not agree more...but there is not a second earlier. My debate also revolved around eliminating the hand entirely. I left it. If I had been able to perhaps include her stride as she passed it would have made a difference for sure.

Lots of great photos showing up and as usual coastalconn has trained the owls (I'm still working on the Ospreys) and I'm glad msmoto didn't take a portrait of me (to expose the 70 year old wrinkles) because those pix are so clear and sharp, but I'm still trying to keep up and hopefully I'll get my act together.
This was testing the N135 f2 dc on my D90.

@Pippigurl - w/o the hand this photo will be just another poor woman with her child photo
@rschnaible - love the layers and the way eye goes on Your photo, though I would play a little bit with contrast in PP to get more from the darker parts.

@adam, I am surprised it turned out so well as the time of day was horrible.... I do have this image on my list to go back and do some photoshop work... A layer with a little painting with white will help a lot

Haven't been shooting much lately, as I've been very busy with work. Hopefully I will have more time in the New Year. I hope everyone's holidays are more relaxing. ;)

Vinopaul: very nice capture
Pippigurl: I think that the mobile phone does not add to the scene, everybody gets the message without the phone. I am not a big fan of selective coloring either, it's probably a personal thing. But it definitely is a great shot.Posted 5 months ago # -
