To all of you "amateur pros" doing wedding photography please don't be like this lady! I think Judge Joe Brown is a Nikon user! :^)

Hahaha: "You don't have 7D, 5D, 10D, you don't have 1 series..." "It's like walking into the ceremony with an iPhone and saying you're going to be a professional."
I think he is a either a Nikon user or reading a script. He was not a fan of the Rebel. I'm curious to know where he has published. ;-)

That is the funnest things I've ever seen, who in their right mind would shoot an indoor wedding with an 18-55mm kit lens?
Posted 3 years ago # -
That had me laughing out loud.
"how fast is your lens?"
"I don't know..."
Posted 3 years ago # -
Yeah, that was a great line. Good way to show yourself to be a professional, when you don't even know the F stops of your lens.

Oh my. . .Judge Brown is TEARING the photogs UP!
"This lens is TOO SLOW!!"
Posted 3 years ago # -
good lol
but if she cant say what speed her lens is she shouldnt be even charging for her work...
Posted 3 years ago # -
Wow, I bet that "photographer" didn't know what she was about to run into with Judge Brown. He laid the smack down. Beware to anyone shooting weddings with kit lenses... it looks like that's grounds for losing a case in court.
Now you can justify getting those 2.8 lenses so you won't get sued.

haha pretty stupid. I fraking loathe shows like these.
First of all ow do you deem something to be of a professional quality? That's purely subjective. Moreover, if the bride looked at the portfolio and saw the type of photography that the photogs were doing and she agreed, what do you really expect. They should have compared the photos to her portfolio that she was showing to the bride.
Moral of the story? Preparation and don't be cheap.
PS- I almost puked when I saw the photo with the flowery effects, and their head popping out. yuck

LOL
I want to see judge Joe Brown's photography so badly.

Yikes ! I didn't know that there was a tripod speed. Deos that come before or after F1.2 ?
Posted 3 years ago # -
this could only happen in USA

Gee, I must be laboring under a misconception here...I was not aware that it was the equipment that made one a "pro". I always thought it was the ability of the photographer no matter what he/she used. Stupid me. I could give a $30,000 Hasselblad to a monkey, and if it come with an acceptable photograph...that must make him a pro. Brown is an idiot! Give me a break!
Posted 3 years ago # -
NO! No! Don't give the Hassey to a monkey! Give it to me! :^)

What speed is it? I dunno... ROFL!!! Still I think the Photographer, as inadequate as her equipment and knowledge is, should of been given more space to speak...

It's a TV show. It's not even legally binding. As far as I know, they only sign an agreement to do whatever the "judge" rules. The TV station pays them to be there, moreover whatever the ruling is, the damages are paid by the TV as well. It's a cheap entertainment. That's about it. Judge Brown can suck it.

Actually from my understanding these kinds of shows are legally binding. The show acts like an arbitrator and the litigants agree to be held accountable to whatever the judgement is.
But the point is that just because you have an entry level DSLR and want to charge $1200USD for prints you get at Costco doesn't make you a pro photographer. Yes there are photographers that don't have a clue about their equipment but they have an eye for great pictures.
Just be aware that weddings are NOT as easy as many make it seem. This type of lawsuit can happen to any photographer regardless of skill level!

I know Niko. I was just explaining for the sake of some members who aren't familiar with the "formula" of the show.

this is the stuff i want to avoid in the future! hahah, i do think she didnt get to speak in defense. But also being a "pro" photographer, she shouldnt of asked her client to meet her at walmart because she just got the prints back. I do believe it is the photographer that makes them pro, but with digital, you lose the difference in quality. If she was shooting with a 6megapixel camera, it would be out performed by a 12mp dx or FX. The point is, photographers must have decent equipment to provide "proffesional" image quality and clarity. the lens speed didnt matter as much to me in the case, i felt the camera body was the bigger issue. If i was a photographer with her equipment and charging 1200 per wedding, i wouldnt be able to sleep at night knowing the outcome with that equipment in a indoor wedding.
One comment that made absolutely no sense was the comments about a tripod. Who would lug around their camera during a wedding on a tripod to get low light portraits? A tripod stops camera shake, it doesnt allow you to be able to stop motion blur. Shooting 3second expsures of the bride and groom exchanging vouels and walking down the isle would be impossiable, thats why proffesional photogs need fast lenses for indoor weddings
Posted 3 years ago # -
Yeah but if they couldn't use the flash and have slow glass, the tripod would be helpful for at least the formal shots in the church before the ceremony.
Besides Judge Brown is old school you just gotta have the tripod.

Poster why do I get the feeling you have already been on an episode of Judge Joe Brown?

That's my favorite quote too... but the guy should have known that the 70-300 is a 5.6-6.3 lens right?? or maybe there are some 4.5 - 5.6.. damn if I don't know that maybe he doesn't... after all it's pretty much a kit lens.

Hahaha, The worst part of it was when he was asking her if she used a tripod for this picture and she was like yes. It was an outside shot of the bride making a face... Some people shouldnt be photographers.. Im all for using the tripod in certain situations. Esp landscapes but thats just one thing you need to leave at home when you go out to shoot a wedding.
