Thanks Niko, time to write my Congresswoman. Might as well write my Senators too, give them something else to work on. Why I always carry cameras on board.

I know that going from Canada to other than US places is still OK

Meh, just a D60. Just tell your insurance it got stolen from your house, car, office, wherever you want. One fraud causes another fraud which causes everything to be more expensive for us. It's a vicious cycle, but one that I would take to not pay for something where I did nothing wrong.

You might not have to lie, jj. While on a trip in Southern Utah, I had my D300 stolen from my mom's car (She lent it to me because it gets better fuel economy than my old beater). I told my renter's insurance company (travelers) exactly what happened and they paid the claim.

Hi Pete,
Flying in the US is business as usual. I have been flying a lot recently and did not notice any changes after the December incident. I know that flying from Canada to the US has been a pain recently since I went there twice in the last month... but no changes here.

I fly between Canada and the US all the time and I haven't noticed any change. I always carry on a small suitcase and a backpack, which is usually packed full enough to be almost as big as the suitcase. I just went back and forth with all my camera gear two weeks ago: a D60, 18-55 kit, 70-300 VR, 200 f/4 macro, 50-500 Sigma and had no problems at all, they didn't even search my carry on by hand, even though they were searching about 30% of the passengers.

That's is interesting and quite different from what I experienced. I visited Edmonton and Ottawa recently and they were searching everyone, everything, everywhere... in fact, they forced me to check in my carry-on .
Did you fly FROM Canada to the US in January or February?

Yes, I flew out of Canada the first Saturday of the Olympics (from Vancouver, in fact). They were searching lots of people, but they ignored me.
EDIT: I should say, though, that the day before that I heard from a friend that they did search literally everyone.
