I posted this in the Upgrading the D300s thread, but I guess I should start a new thread.

crap.
I really wish I had a job right now. I wonder how long this deal is going to last...
any deal on a body from Nikon is a direct hint at a new body being released. . .so it won't last long, and then you'll have the new body. . .
. . . at $250 more. ;-)
Well, most places will still have some D90s in stock when the new body comes out, plus every once in a while you still see refurbs of old cameras (the D40 kept popping up for a while even after the D3000 was released, for instance). I wouldn't worry about it, in the long term the price of bodies always goes down.
Wasn't the price this low too back during Christmas? Seems like it went up only to come back down.
Wishful thinking on a new body - but the new fluctuating prices on Nikon DSLR bodies are probably due to their new March "Instant Savings" offers from Nikon USA - where you can save $200, $250, $300, or even $400 when you purchase certain lenses with a Nikon DSLR body on the same invoice. Games will be played, and short term price changes may occur. Isn't the retail camera business fun?

No doubt, but if you have the lenses you need already, this is a pretty great deal no?
Seriously, getting the D90 plus a 70-300VR shouldn't be much more than $1000 now with the rebates and price drops, that's an amazing deal.
EDIT: $1109 to be exact.
the more I thought about this, the more likely I am to actually just wait now. Even at the price the body is at now 740.00, thats only 160.00 less than it launched for (correct me if I'm wrong please) and if thats the case for me it's really worth it to wait for the sucessor (whenever that happens to be) assuming it launches at the same price the d90 launched at, which is a reasonable assumption no?
under 200 dollars for me is well worth a (hopefully) corrected and fully fleshed out video mode as well as whatever else is changed/added.
The D90 actually retailed for $999.95USD body only when it first appeared. In kit form it was $1299.95USD. So the replacement model will be similarly priced if not slightly more depending on what new features are included.
Ah I see that now, I don't know how I missed that as it actually kept that price for over a year.
It also appears the d80 launched with the same price set up, so heres hoping nikon adheres to tradition. Or hell, maybe they'll even buck the trend and price lower ;)

I remember when the D300 came out the D200 price droped, but several months later Best Buy's web site was selling the D200 body for $599.95 which was a steal.
If you now need the D90 body buy it, but if you can wait I would. I would be surprised to see if someone does not have to unload at a bargain basement price a little while after the new model release.
Yeah, I think I remember it being 1200 or something just a few weeks after the D300 came out. I also remember that best buy sale and thinking it must be a typo. I was so tempted but didn't need or get one.

I remember having one in the shopping cart and did not press the purchase button. I wish that I had. I do not know if you remember, but they were also offering free shipping and no sales tax. It truely was a steal.
