85 1.4 AF-D - buy now cheap used or???

I'm wondering everyone's thoughts. . . a lot of these are ending up on the used market, and I don't have anything fast past 60mm in my collection. . . .was going to save for a 70-200 VR2, but I thought for a brief moment that this lens would be a "smarter" buy given the average price used is around $900 . . .

I don't shoot sports/action; some event, but nothing a prime can't handle.

I am DX now but plan on FX once the D700 has been upgraded.

I just don't think the new 85 1.4 AF-S is going to be "cheap" new at $1299, I suspect it'll be closer to $1999. . . .

I hope it'll be closer to the current price. I'd hate to submit the paper work to get spousal "approval" for a $2000USD prime :^(

The AF-D is still a great lens and I doubt it will lose much if any value on the used market. But since you don't really need it right now,do you, I say just wait a bit longer.

that's what I was thinking. . .lol, and yeah, the spousal approval form got a little more tedious as our dishwasher just crapped out and spit up water all over our kitchen, destroying the previous-owner installed laminate flooring (READ: $$$$) . . .so buying the 85 1.4D was already headed into a filibuster in my finance department :-/

OUCH! I have a file cabinet full of spousal approval forms with DENIED stamped across them :^(
The few APPROVED forms I keep framed on my wall :^)

You too Niko have the cabinet full of DENIED forms, shit.. I though it was only me :( and apart from the 300/2.8 I also have some plans for this new wide prime (not gonna mention which one, as she sometimes skims through my posts:) )

pcraigs - I doubt the new sigma will be much cheaper than the Nikon one. S50/1.4 ain't a buck cheaper than N50/1.4, over my place it's even more expensive.

If my wife even knew my username or went through my posts, I'd be bent over screwed - she still doesn't "know" about the Tokina 11-16 and 24 2.8. . .ah well, at least we're all in the same boat :-)

Luckily if she doesn't see the receipt she won't know the difference between one anonymous black lens with a gold stripe in your bag and another anonymous black lens with a gold stripe in your bag... unless it goes over 300mm

I already told my girlfriend that i will have to upgrade every 8 years for lenses (2.8 constants) and bodies every 4 years. She seems okay with it NOW. Hahaha

I just get de facto approval by ordering things and asking later. The downside is she's learned to do the same thing to me with her exercise equipment purchases.
