Hi, I'm thinking of making the switch to nikon because I'm shooting more video. The issue I have is needing two bodies and there doesn't seem to be a fast frame rate camera besides the D4 - too much for what it is compared to a 1Dx!

    I'm needing something that is 8-10fps but also does 720p @ 60fps.

Any suggestions on what that camera will be or when a refresh is expected? Maybe its a revised D300/700?

    Thanks for any insight :)

Not going to happen I am afraid... Why do you think the D4 is too much when compared to the 1Dx? The d4 outspecs it on almost every platform. Now the 1Dc is a different animal but at over twice the price of the d4 is not worth it for the not fully dedicated. The D4 has the definate edge in video over the 1Dx and many features that canon was slow to incorporate properly

What you probably need is a D3s... Everything but the 60fps at 720p. The D4 is the closest you are going to get to what you want except the $15,000.000 1Dc

    Professional or hobby use?

Easily stated Nothing from the camera companies for a 4-8+ years. Panasonic seems to be on a faster video pace, they may have something that may work for you.

There are literally dozens of video cameras that do more than 60fps video. The question is at what quality and how much are you willing to pay. These are specific use and usually quite expensive, but if you are willing to shell out $6,000-$40,000 there are quite a few that will do it.

You are not going to find anything at full resolution photos above 10-12fps until you get into scientific applications. Most of those are build to order - I don't want to know what the price of those can be.

Jason, buy a D4, D800, a couple lenses and play around with them. Maybe 24-70 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8 plus a 24mm f/1.4. Then after you have understood the capabilities of the toys... you will no doubt like the Nikon family. My guess is you like to go to the absolute edge in things and these will almost take you there. Thx! I think I'm going to go for msmoto's comment on the D4/D800.

Going to wait till Feb to see if Canon announces a 7DMKII or 3D - if they don't definitely making the switch. If they do it will just stall me till the D4 drops in price a bit (spending 5K on a body is a bit much, rather put that money towards rigs - steadicam, multicopter, etc).

I was going to answer the same way as you kyoshinikon, it looks like a good reasonable way to go would be the D3s. What kind of Nikkor glass do you have now tother? The D600 is just a touch below your needs it sounds like at 5.5 FPS. I thought Canon and Nikon were the same in terms of video ability specs actually. At least with the 1Dx (fantastic camera by the way), and the D4.

Hi Kanuck, no nikkor lenses yet. Thats my issue, right now Canon seams to have more of whay I neeed in terms of body/frame rates for a reasonable price but nikons got the glass and also beter prices on the glass. I'm going to hold off on going the nikon route for a few months but excited to make the switch.

    Thx, J
