Pete
BTW Look at the low light ISO rating

This chart indicates that the D90 scores higher than either the D300 or D300s. Since all three have the same sensor, and the D300s is the latest of the three, why? Are the sensors the same? Is they're methodology flawed?
On balance this makes Nikon look like a bargain!

lol, the high iso ratings are absurd!!
In terms of SNR,
My D200's ISO 100 = D3s ISO 400
ISO 200 = ISO 800,
ISO 400 = ISO 1600,
ISO 800 = ISO 3200,So I guess that does it, I'll have to get a D3s/D700s when funds are available. . .it's LITERALLY 3 stops better (did I count that right)?
Dammit, really wanted to get the 70-200 VR2 this year. . .maybe I'll just get the lens and take a lighting workshop class so I can use lower ISO's on the D200 (cheaper than a D700s) until I can get one, haha!

I don't even want to address the DR issues either. . .just saw the chart, are you KIDDING ME?!?!?! My D200's 800 ISO DR is about the equivalent of the D3s' 12,800 ISO. . .
lesson learned, never let ISO above 800 :-)

I can't remember the source at this point, but I read in a review that the D3S's ISO 6400 had a slightly less noise than the D700's ISO 1600. Can that be possible?

according to Dxo, it's about a stop or so, so D700 1600 is 3200 in D3s

If it's a full stop over the D700 that's still pretty amazing. Getting very usable pictures at 6400 ISO would be incredible.
Usable pictures from cameras I've owned go roughly as follows:
D80: 800
D300: 1600
D700: 3200That increase makes low light picture taking exponentially better. I consider the D300 almost worthless in many circumstances. Can't wait for a D700s.

Is there any reason why a D3x does better than a D3s?
Posted 3 years ago # -
It's because their scoring system has arbitrary weights for each category. You can't take their final score as 'the answer' because everyone is going to have different needs (and budgets).

DxO does not factor in resolution for it's scores. The D3X has much better dynamic range then the D3S and also slightly better image color. The D3S is unmatched in ISO performance by any other camera. Nothing comes close to it by a mile or several kilometers :^)

The D700 replacement will probably have a totally new sensor so I don't think it will compete with what you get out of the D3S except for more megapixels.
