    Hi,

I used to use a Canon Dslr (1000d & 50d), then finally decide to switch to Nikon.

Firstly consider d5000 merely due to the low price tag, but I like the feature on d90 top lcd, high res lcd and built in flash commander. I almost bought it last night, but then I read some rumours about new d90... should I wait (i don't know when it will release) ? or just buy a d5000 to wait for the new d90?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thx !

    welcome hitofu to the forum,
new version of d90 should be released tis year, but I wouldn't expect it in the first half of the year.
as for d5000 - try to find a good deal on refurbished body. I've seen some of the for less than $500.

    Hi ya hitofu

It depends on what you need a camera for? Do you just want a camera for pictures of family and friends or do you want it just for your enjoyment? Right now the D90 is at a very good price. When the replacement shows up it will be probably be more expensive. I'd say around $999-1200USD.

Last week I just recommended to my daughter that she purchase the D5000 over the D90 based on quite a bit of feedback from members on this site. It is at B&H for $549.95 new. You have to actually add it to the shopping cart to see this price.

I want a camera for my own enjoyment. I personally like the D90 more for the additional features which I will use(e.g. top lcd, high res lcd and the wireless commander), but I really don't want the like a month or so have a D7000 after purchased D90 now.

Well like I said the D90 replacement will probably be more expensive so the D90 is a pretty good bargain that a newer model won't be. You'll have to wait a few months or a year before a new model sees a price reduction from it's introductory price. However if having the latest and greatest is important to you and you're not in a hurry to buy then just wait and save up more money.

You can get a D90 now for around $780. I would imagine a replacement would start at over $1000 (perhaps as much as $1200), plus the D90 is available and extremely well regarded. I bought mine for $1,000 when it first came out and have NO regrets at all, a tremendous camera!

I agree with Ted and Niko. It's hard to imagine what the D90 replacement would give you that would be worth the price difference, besides the fact that the replacement hasn't been announced and you could be learning the camera and taking great pictures from now until then.

If you are used to shooting with the 50D get the D90. The D90 tops the 50D in many categories and is a prosumer camera of a similar level (in terms of what tools are given, basic features, and performance). The D5000 is more like the 500D being a higher end consumer model, and is easy to use, but is lacking pro controls found on the D90 and especially the D300/D700. You will not regret getting the D90

Congratulations, I like my D90 better every day. I feel a smile coming on every time I pick it up, it's reflexive. Hope you're as happy with yours.
