So, which are you? Is it the same as your handedness? Do you also have issues with cameras because of which eye is dominant?
I'm left-eye dominant, but right-handed.
My D300's focus selector pad had to be constantly locked because I was always changing it accidentally with my nose. I don't have that problem on my D90, but I have hit the live view button a couple of times on accident—not enough to annoy me like on the D300, though.
left eye, and im right handed. Its too awkward if i use my right eye. I noticed for some reason its more comfortable on my D3 rather then my d90. I find myself having to look really hard on my D90 to even see the picture
I am right eye dominant, but I am semi-ambidextrous. I can't write very well with my left, but can in a pinch, but I can use eating utensils like chopsticks and knives with both hands.
I am trying to experiment with my left eye though. It feels slightly uncomfortable with the left eye and less natural as well.
I'm absolutely left eyed, but right-handed.
smarterchild: I know how you feel with the d90 finder, all dx finders suck after getting used to full frame finders. I find 35mm viewfinders even to be small after using my medium format cameras.
I had the opportunity to shoot a wedding last Saturday. I was a 2nd photog with the 1st being a good friend showing me the ropes. I borrowed a nikkor 70-200 2.8 vr and straped it to my D40x. It felt a bit like being walked by a really big dog.
So, 3 hours into this I realize that my vision is getting blurry. I ask my friend if he ever has this problem. - No-. "Do you shoot with both eyes open?" he asks. Well, no. I can't see throgh the viewfinder if I do. "Oh, try your left eye" he says. Bingo. Wow! I had no idea. I'm totally left eye dominant. This really sucks!
So, the delimma I delt with for the next 4 hours... and am still questioning; do I deal with the blurriness (caused by haveing my left eye closed for so long) or do I learn to shoot with my left eye (which feels fairly awkward)?
What did you decide to do. I have a feeling that there is really only one option.
I'm also semi-ambidextrous. I can use both my right and left hands. It just depends on what I'm doing (get your mind out of the gutter you perverts!)
I keep both eyes open when shooting but hold the viewfinder up to my right eye. I don't like using my left eye because my nose gets in the way.
I have to concentrate hard to use my right eye to look through a viewfinder, but I know what you mean about the awkward feeling, Jeff. I've shot rifles since I was a little kid and my dad didn't know I was left-eye dominant, so I learned to shoot with my right eye. Now I deal with a handicap either way I shoot a gun—my technique and posture is better right-handed, but I can see better left-handed.
I'd just switch to your left eye now. You'll thank yourself in the future.
So should we be surprised that most people that have posted so far are left-eye? Is it just because right-eyed people are content so they don't say anything or is it really this far out of balance?
I usually just keep both my eyes closed when shooting firearms jonny. I just keep pulling the trigger because I know that eventually I'll hit something :^)

ah hell- that's not what I meant! I'm a teacher for crying out loud! I spent a week with the marines in an educational workshop - you know- we'll give you a good time if you quit telling all your students to go to the airforce.
It was a great time! I probably would've signed up if I wasn't geriatric!
There were 4 active duty marines following us around teh whole week with a MOS of photographer! Awesome!
Left eye, right hand. No problems.
Another right handed person, who is left eye dominant. I'm left eye dominant because I have monocular vision (Google it if you don't know what that means). I have the same issue as jonny when it comes to focus point selector on the D300, sometimes. I often will lock it, but I can get away with leaving the selector unlocked when I'm shooting from a tripod.

No issues with my D200. . .but I have a D17M circular eye piece on it (had to get an import converter from Japan to make it work), so my nose is actually 10mm away from the body, which allows me to leave little nose smear/steam marks on the bottom right hand corner of my Zagg-shielded screen. . .
(I have to hold the record for longest sentence yet with that last one). . .
Left eye dominant and left-handed, but I do a lot of things righty too. I have a D300 and had a D70 and have had no issues.
Left eye dominant, and mostly right handed, although I do some things left handed. I always use my left eye for the viewfinder. Don't yet have a digital SLR, so no issues there. With the old film cameras, where I pulled out the wind level a tad to turn it on, the level always poked me in the forehead, or was against the other eyepiece of my glasses.
So far we have 7 left-eyed right-handed people, one left-eyed left-handed person, and two right-eyed right-handed people. This is interesting to me and definitely not what I expected. I think it's got to be bias from people not writing anything if they've never had issues.

No, I got right eye dominance with the archery test.

I'm very left eye dominant. I guess I'm very lucky in this regard, since I'm blind in my right eye.
I used to have trouble using an FM body. To keep it turned on, the film winding lever had to be kept half cocked, so to speak. That is, it couldn't be left flush against the body while it was on. I used to poke myself in the right eye all the time while using it. It was enough to take my eye out! It was a good thing I had nothing to lose.
And with the DX viewfinders, I too have to look very hard to see through them, especially if I use my right (wrong) eye. * @ Not sure if an FX finder would help though.
Maybe I should switch eyes and invoke THE FORCE. Who knows what sort of shots I might get then.

Right eye dominant. Shoot camera and guns with both eyes open - learned that for situational awareness.
