I have been wondering for quite a while about skill level of the people who frequent this site, the type of body(s) they own and the type of lenses they own. I think that this may be an interesting unofficial survey that all may be interested in hearing. If nothing else it could be fun to read.

Out of curiosity the following:

1. What type of photographer are you?

I only have 1 body for now, looking to upgrade later this year. Currently I use a Nikon D60

I have 6 lenses which I share with my brother : -

I'd call myself semi-pro. Portraits and events, mostly.

Bodies:
-D90
-D300 got stolen in October 2009, and now I'm waiting for a D700 replacement.
-Olympus OM-2

Lenses:
-Tamron 17-50 2.8 DX
-Nikkor 50 1.8
-Nikkor 35 1.8 DX got stolen with my D300 and I'm still considering whether to replace it or put that money toward a 24-70 2.8
-Tamron 70-200 2.8
(for the oly: Olympus 50 1.8, Vivitar 28-135 macro)

All my (big) family shoots Nikon, so I have used and whenever I want to I can borrow any of these lenses/bodies:
D100, D200, D70s, D80, another D90, D40, D60, Nikkor 85 1.8D, Tamron 90 2.8 macro, 18-55 VR, 55-200 VR, 18-70, 18-105 VR, Nikkor 70-210 4.

Not asked, but I currently use four alien bees AB400s (one with one of their big octobox softboxes: lovely) and an SB-600.

Also not asked, but on my purchase list this year are the 24-70 (hopefully VR), a full frame body (D700 replacement?), and perhaps an upgrade to the 70-200 2.8 VRII.

As of yet I've only shot 3 rolls with the FM2, 1st of which I completely ignored the meter (doh!), the 2nd one I loaded the film wrong (doh!), the 3rd came out really nice.

The Mamiya I'm in the process of shooting with, but not really enjoying it the same way as the FM2- the meter's erratic for some odd reason.

Just got the Canon from a relative, haven't even shot a roll of film yet and don't have batteries.

I'm much better with digital as it costs much less per shot, and I've had the D40 for over 2 years, nearly 3 now so I guess I'm pretty good with it now.

My current kit is still the Mickey Mouse camera but now I have a Polaroid as a backup. I also have a large format camera now. I made it out of a Quaker Oatmeal container.

Thread redundancy seems to be the bane of a certain someone on this board....

So, to add to that frustration here is my list of how awesome me and my cameras are:

Amateur with a dozen or so published photos
D300s and D700
Nikkor 50mm 1.4D
Nikkor AF-S 105mm 2.8
Nikkor AF-S 300mm F4

Living and travelling in SEAsia, I decided that taking up photography was the right thing to do. I had the d300 but found that it just didn't handle the low light situations well enough for me. After reading about the d3s and when I found out that it was $1000 less here than in the US, I bit! It is awesome, and the heaviness and not a problem with me. I actually like that feel.

By night/weekend, I'm an enthusiast/Semi-Pro. .I'm just entering the "scene", which is pretty stout in the NYC area. . .second shooter at a couple weddings, did some small community events, but really trying to work on selling the landscape photos and get into local portraiture. . .

17-55 2.8

60 2.8 micro
35 1.8G

Next,
70-200 VR2 (because renting them for events and barely breaking even is stupid) or a D700s. . .not sure which, but hoping that I'll make the right choice next February 2011 when I'll have funds good to go. . .would sell the D200, which would mean I'd get rid of the 17-55 and 11-16 DX lenses (35 1.8G works nicely on FX bodies apparently), but would have to fill a large gap (16-35/4 might work well in that manner). . .

Hey ShadeofBlue I could have sold you my Tokina 11-16mm! :) Its a wonderful lens, but I went fullframe so I used to trade for a new 14-24mm last November. Again nothing but good things to say about the 11-16. I used it with the D300 body (traded in for D700) I had at the time. It has such a small zoom range it does seem to feel like a wide angle prime though...

I am a newbie photographer with hopes of using photography as a stress reliever. :-)

I hope to get good enough to move onto full frame. I am done buying DX lenses for now. Any new lenses I buy are going to be FX ones. My next purchase is going to be a Manfrotto monopod.
