I am on the trip with my dad. Im 18, but he wouldnt let me do it hahahah. i wish, though. but im happy with what i have. i have found shooting wide at 24 is to short for me, Id like a tempolary help for that without buying a lens. right now, my 70-200 is being used alot for nightscapes. Ill post some of the pictures. i find its nothing wrong in buying high end cameras with high acculations. Its basically buying a car imo. I see the D3 as a 300000 acculation life. where at the end, pay to have it rebuilt for a few hundred dollars. Im a smart highschool kid by asking for camera gear instead of a Hot chick magnet car.

There is an update for this old post in that a new alternative filter system for this lens is available now. It was discussed from Nikon Rumors and it is made from a company called Fotodiox. The unit like the Lee system is not cheap though. $300 gets you the filter frame and an ND6 and ND8. There is also a polarizar set option too. If you check it out at Nikon rumors the link sends you to Adorama. Very tempting....

It seems like a much better option than the Lee Filter kit.....that thing is just cumbersome. Although, Lee makes some amazing filters. This Fotodiox filter kit for the N14-24 looks like it can easily live on the lens permanently, which is what I was always looking for. The Lee kit would need to be taken off after every use. Also, because of the width of the filters, it looks like you could easily stack filters with the Fotodiox, too. I'm probably going to get one with the UV filter, an ND8 and the CPL. This would be an awesome setup!

Yes it seems much lighter and more realistic to simply leave on the lens I agree I have been waiting for something like this. I wonder how easy it is to order or will it take 10 years to ship and reach your palms like the current Lee system? Face in palm.....

Hi guys as you know Lee owner here. That set up looks interesting. Although you are right Cary, that you can't leave the SW150 on the lens in it's entirety, you can leave the fiddly lens braket on permanently, and just remove the filter holder. Also remember that the Fotodiox system is no use if you need a ND Grad. Can you buy the Fotodiox filters separately? The main blog seems to show the CP and ND filters only sold as part of two starter kits?

I think the ND grad is sort of make or break for a 14-24mm lens filter system. I'm glad Lee has a pseudo competitor now. Perhaps that will help improve product availability (and maybe pricing).

You're right though, competition is good!

Interesting that it was the filter holding it up!
