Has anyone out there had a chance to test the TC-2.0E III with the old 70-200 VR yet? How does it compare with the old 2.0 TC, for instance? Is it as good as the TC-1.4E II?

I've heard less than stellar things. . .I would, if you have the choice, stick with a DX body and the 70-200 VR1 OR, take the plunge for the 200-400/4 if you REALLY need that reach. . .

Yes I am using a DX body - D300s. I'm sorry, but your advice is less than useful ! A 200-400 f/4 costs £4500 here in the UK. I already have the 70-200 VR and a TC-2.0E III would 'only' cost another £450 !

The TC-17 is another option you should consider. I use it in conjunction with a D700 and the 70-200 2.8 VR. It works great.

continuing the theme of not being helpful, I stumbled across this pretty solid review of all the TC's by Nikon with the new 70-200 VRII:
http://mansurovs.com/nikon-70-200mm-vr-ii-review/3I wouldn't go beyond 1.4 or 1.7x with your old 70-200 VR1.

There are plenty of good deals on ebay as far as the 200 - 400 goes.

I don't know, Moose Peterson seems to like it a lot.
