    Hello all,

I'm after a camera which takes better quality images than a standard P&S, but can geotag. I want to spend between £300 and £500, and so I was set on buying the P6000. Seemed like a perfect fit.

However, it transpires now that the P6000 may be replaced shortly? I know a lot of people here don't care about geoTagging or entry level cameras, but any guidance would be appreciated. Buying a D5000 with the GP1 budget just seems to be too expensive, even though it would produce much better pictures.

Any suggestions on my best course of action? perhaps other brands?

    Thanks,

    Rob

    D5000 kit. . .should be EASILY under 500lbs. . .it's about $500 USD right now. . .

worst case a D3000 kit. . .but I would highly recommend the D5k, great video, nice sensor, not too noisey, and the screen is pretty cool. . .I rented one for a month and LOVED it. . .

Welcome to the forum robsandbach. I recommend the Sony HX5V. It was recently announced and is just barely getting ready to ship out for sale. It's a very capable point & shoot with lots of features like gps and a digital compass for a very reasonably price $350USD. I think it's exactly what you are looking for.

Yes it is. I've got another model of HX sony camera and I enjoy it very much. Image quality isn't as good as a DSLR but it's good enough for prints up to 8x10 and for web and email. The auto panorama and HDR is very cool. GPS and the digital compass is a very nice plus.

I might have to get this for my wife for mother's day, then. She refuses to hike around even a D90, and this would let her take short videos and snapshots of our wild boys when I've got the camera.

I like the Canon G11 for P&S. Easy to carry good results. However, taking pictures of babies and children with it were not satisfying. I just recently purchased the D90 and am enjoying it. The D5000 kit is a good option. I liked more of the things that the D90 offered over the D5000. And silly as it may sound the D90 fit my hand better.

Hi, the recent canon S90 is a great little camera. I have tried the G11 and its also great for a point and shoot so light!
