Yes they are rugged, I have sent them through the washing machine and dryer and they still work!
They actually found the owners of the camera because of the BBC story! I have actually washed an SD card with my clothes on accident and had no problems using it afterwards! Another reason why I wouldn't mind if Nikon got rid of CF cards.

Even dpreview put this up on their main page!? I never recall them ever doing a "feel good" photography story before? They have always stuck to just product reviews and announcements. I guess they are feeling the pressure of "Mongolian" websites and are stepping up their game, lol.
For those who don't have a clue about the "Mongolian" "joke"

Are dpreview based in Britain? Maybe they just haven't had any feel good photo stories that side of the pond.
lol. Yes dpreview is owned by an american company (amazon.com) but they are located in London. I'm sure there are plenty of feel good stories that they just ignored. Seems kinda strange that they posted it up to their main page. I guess Phil was in a feel good mood. Perhaps he had just finished racing his Caterham race car :^)
Works a bit better than pre-washing film...
That is awesome!!

That's some pretty cool stuff.
On a side note does an Eye-Fi card have security features and can it work without power from the camera itself?
I can imagine you could configure some wireless internet to pull off images off Eye-Fi cards whenever it spots one.
