I currently have D80 and 16-85VR, Sigma 70-300 APO /w motor, and Nikkor MF 50mm F1.4 lens.. I'm considering to buy the D700 but its quite pricey to me (I could get it, but I would spend too much money and I might have to skip lunch for a while lol..) I'm also interested in D300s, but I feel like I won't be satisfied as much as D700 due to the high sensitivity noise..Also, another thing that I'm interested in is the older Nikon 70-200VR F2.8.. I take all kinds of photo and most important thing to consider is that this is just my hobby, not for any profit.
What do you guys think I should do? This has been stressing me too much and I ended up writing here...:(
Also can you recommend me where I could buy good used cameras?
Glass or body?

16-85 is a good lens but it's not meant for full frame cameras so you'll have to replace it or sell it with the D80. Your other lenses are good to go with a D700.
The D700 is worth the money but if you think you wont be able to afford eating after you buy it then don't get it. I say keep your D80 a while longer and just save up enough until you can actually afford the D700. Or buy it used after the D800/900 comes out.

Oops forgot to welcome you to the forum :^)

Thank you for welcoming me :) I've been looking at this forum for a while but I joined few days ago..
Anyways, thank you for your reply.. But my hands just don't want to leave money in my pocket alone :(...
Is there any good place where I can buy used camera equipments other than craigslist, adorama and ebay?

Oh in that case I'll make it easy for you blckcat. Just send me your money and I'll look for a good D700 for you! You can trust me :^)
Seriously, the D700 is still kind of expensive even used. Until a replacement shows up the price won't be coming down. Keh.com is another good place to find used gear but I just checked and they don't have any used D700s available right now.

Lol I'd love to send you the money, if I hit a jack pot when I go to Vegas next week ;)
But anyways, thanks for the recommendation, I think I'll be checking that website too :) I was actually supposed to buy from this one guy from Craigslist this morning but he just busted the meeting because his new camera hasn't arrived yet as he needed a camera :(. He was going to sell D700 for $1900 with around 9k shutter releases. Is this a good deal? If it is, I might just wait until he gets his camera....

Thats a really good deal, the 9k is hardly even broken in for a camera than can handle at least 150k actions.

Hi and welcome!
I bought my D700 used and was able to trade in my D300 for it. Its a wonderful camera and worth its used price tag to me. NikoDoby is right in saying maybe wait until the next FX body is released. This will probably be the D700x or D900. I don't any camera has ever been as anticipated like the D700 upgrade has been. Once this body is released the D700 price will absolutely plummet like a stone.

blckcat I'll be waiting for the brief case :^)
That price for the D700 sounds too good to be true so I'd be a bit suspicious. Unless you personally know the guy. Stolen cameras are too often sold on craigslist as personal items. Also remember that the shutter count can be easily reset so it is not a concrete way of knowing how much use the camera has had.

Welcome to the forum, blackcat. If you want a less risky upgrade (uh-oh, Niko, out comes my ideology again!), you could order a D90. At $800 for the body new, you don't have to replace any lenses and you could sell your D80 for a good fraction of that. My dad went from D80 to D90 and couldn't be happier with it—I'm sure he'd love a D700 but he'll never spend that kind of money on a hobby.
edit: I was just curious and looked around on ebay. The D80 body only is selling for $400 pretty consistently. Can I second my own recommendation? ;-)Posted 3 years ago # -
I would agree to a point there. When you upgrade bodies, you really should upgrade every other generation to get the most out of your money.
Sounds like a good deal, but still.

Welcome blckcat.
First of all what D300s high sensitivity noise are you talking about? D300s (and D90) is so much better at high sensitivity noise then your current D80 that for this reason alone you should consider buying it.
D700 is a very good camera but is a bit expensive if you are not a pro, so is D300s in my opinion.
If I were you I would sell D80 and really not so good Sigma 70-300 and go for new D90 and second hand 70-200 if you can find a good deal for it and can afford it.Posted 3 years ago # -
Thank you for warm welcome and your advice :) I got a lot of help and I decided to get a brighter lens ( 35mm f2.0D ) and keep my D80 for bit longer and wait for the next gen D700 :) After reading you guys' post I found myself craving to buy something just too much... anyways hope the next version of D700 comes out soon!
