Hi I am an Italian photographer, passing from Canon back to Nikon, I was Canon when Nikon digital was so and so, anyway now I am back to Nikon.

I have a D700 body and I need to buy a second one in few weeks, what you guy suggest to me ?

    1) Waiting the New Camera ?
    2) Buy another D700 ?

    or

    3) Buy and D3 with very few actuations at the same price of a D700 ?

    Thanks for your help

    best

Depends on what you need. You could get a D300s for the crop factor.

    Welcome to the Forum.
Waiting won't be an option if you need the 2nd body in a few weeks. Just won't happen.
Where can you buy a D3 for price of a D700? Do you need the extra bells and whistles of the D3, the extra burst rate? If the D3 is in like new condition and really the same price as the D700, personally, I'd go for the D3.
Sure you'll get lots of comments from the forum.
    Good luck.

I doubt you will be able to get mint D3 for the same price as D700 and I do not see much reason to get it as it is very much the same IQ as D700.
I would personally go for new D300s for a second body, having DX and FX set has some advantages like cropping factor.

Best bet is to get a second of the same body type, that way you don't have to worry about a different sets of controls and settings.

I agree with mb for the same reasons he gave. Unless you absolutely need a second of the same type of body (like I would), having one of each could be beneficial.

I wouldn't go with the same body, rather I would go either for: d300s - to get the reach, or used d3 - it's still better than d700 in some aspects.

Its hard to say, the OP never said what he shoots, so more reach may be irreverent to him. IMO, if you need, and I mean really need a D3, you know it, you don't even have to ask.

He could get the MB-D10 with the D300s, then he can use that to up his speed, depending on whether he wants to use the D700 or D300s. Then he saves money and can use full frame speed or DX speed.

The D300s better than the D700... HA! unless you need HD video or improved firmware go with the D700 or D3 if you can (try ebay you will find great deals there)

NSX - if You plan to use d700 with grip, I suggest to go for d3 - it's gonna be both smaller, and faster than d700+MB10

No, I wasn't planning to, I was just pointing out that it's certainly a possibility. Then if he wants a high speed crop, he can use the D300s with the grip.

Maybe that'll work for him, maybe it won't.
