I thought You don't have mandarins in US gentoo.
I cheated adamz, this was at the San Diego Zoo :)

Yes astro, you are now my bird photographer competition. That's a good thing though, it will keep me on my toes.
I like this shot a lot. I see they're coming into breeding plumage. The bokeh is rather pleasing and both birds are in sharp focus. I always end up sacrificing one bird when I do shots like this.

"breeding plumage"? How'd you know that? I was happy just to get an ID.
This osprey was being pestered by a heron so it took to this telephone pole to finish lunch. Only to be "pestered" by a photographer.
I have been getting ready my gear for a photo shoot tomorrow.. and fingers got itchy. But its a rainy day sigh .. However, I saw this caterpillar trying to escape the rain... Yay!

That is one cute pooch! It's good to see something other than a bird :^)

Red-Shouldered Hawk with a coot. Oakland, Ca.
I bet there's a story behind that shot! I gather coots are fodder for raptors.
I originally marked this a snowy egret but I now think it's a little blue heron (immature). I believe the little blue heron is not common in Southern California.
Astro, that is an immature Little Blue Heron, you can see the dusky tips to it's wings. While they're not common in So Ca. there is a bredding population at Sea World. I've heard reports recently that they may now be breeding at the wild animal park.
For some reason I'm craving a beer now :^)
But those are not Ab Clydesdales lol
The husky shots are cool!
