The 28-80 is a little on the slow side but it fine as a walk around lens and if something is really off the wall but you don't have time to switch primes or move much this lens will get the lens job done I find. I use it for about 5-10% of my shots only. I have been pleased. Its not easy finding a better lens cheaper. The 1.8 D is a pro quality lens and very cheap as mentioned.

At least, that's the case for my D60 from what I've heard. I'd look into it first, to be sure, though.

You can mount any F mount lens on a D40, D60 or D5000.

yes you just lose auto focus.

Ahhh yes our good buddy Ken. I used to like his posts about a year ago but he got a little too "out there for me." Some of his reviews are still good though..
