And will the sensor be found in some of the new Coolpix models???
Pete

More than likely they are all made by Sony. Which new cameras exactly are you talking about bmxdad?
OK here is some of them:
Sony DSC- W320/330/350/370/380
Pansonic DMC-FP2/FS33/FS30/FS11/FP3
Casio EX-Z2000/Z550/H15
Olympus T 3000/Sty 9010/7040/7030/5010 FE-4040/4030/47
Samsung TL240
That was all found on DPReview with all the same/similar 14.1 MP and 50 MP/cm² sensor
Pete
So what happens if most of them are made by Sony? Nikon will have one too?
Sony, Canon and Nikon sensors are usually made by Sony, Panasonic and Olympus by Panasonic and Samsung makes his own sensors, Casio I really do not know.
But that is besides the point, the point is what is the use on 14Mpix sensor on a P&S except marketing?

I was only wondering why so many had the same or very similar specs, Yes we are back to marketing useless MP numbers again in these P&S cameras. I was kind of hoping that last years retreat back to less MP on many models would be kept this year also
That is actual what I dislike the most about Sony, they don't try to generate high IQ, but rather camera specs at the lowest possible price, this includes their latest DSLR also. And sadly so many brands incl Nikon depends on Sony to make their sensors

Yeah, their DSLR lineup is way more confusing than Canon's. Do not want.
I am not sure about that, new Sony 10Mpix CCD sensor used in Canon G11 and S90 gives the best IQ I have ever seen in a P&S
