Somebody try this with your brand new D3000 or D5000 and let us know how it goes, lol :^)

Well, good astro CCDs are all cooled, and scientific ones operate at a few K above absolute zero, to reduce noise associated with a warm sensor. I don't know how much that translates to the type of noise you see in digital cameras, but it's seems plausible to me.

Doesn't really increase the ISO.

Well first off the fridge that was used for the camera in the picture requires the attention of a Hazmat team :)
I don't really believe it since the temps in a fridge won't go low enough to have an influence on short exposure thermal noise and even by the extreme remote possibility it goes that low (and the camera still works) then there is no continuous heat sinking action on the sensor thus the effect would be eradicated very quickly.

4chan is the cesspool of Internet. Some tool thought that by showing that he did it, other people would follow in pursuit and in effect destroy their equipment.

Either it worked or those photo's were taken at different ISO's.
If you try it do two things so you don't damage your camera. Take the battery before you take it some place warm and allow it to warm up slowly to reduce condensation (with out the battery).
