There are a lot of conflicting "rumors" on what Nikon will and won't be announcing. For sure new COOLPIXes but what else? The possibility of a new kind of COOLPIX seems to be growing while a D900/800 is fading a bit. It would make sense that Bob Krist was using a new COOLPIX perhaps. That's why he showed us a photo of him using a DSLR. A picture of him using a DSLR would not jepordize an NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement)if the product he was "testing" was a new COOLPIX. Perhaps the camera taking the picture of him was in fact taken with the new COOLPIX!?

The D800/900 rumors have been kinda quiet this past week. I would have expected new details or a photo to have leaked by now. Only two weeks away from the announcement. I guess the next 14 days will be very interesting or very boring.

I really wish that Nikon EVIL would be announced.

I've been waiting for small and compact EVIL for some time now, I really want something that could fit in my pocket at all times, but to no avail ...

I'd like an evil as a point and shoot, but the prices are just way to high for what they are today. If the price was closer to D3000, then I'd think about it, until then I'll hang onto my E-410.

According to Thom H. the lastest rumor is that the following will be announced in about ten days?

    TC-14E III
    TC-17E III
    SB-700
    24mm f/1.4G
    35mm f/1.4G
    85mm f/1.4G
    D900

It really sounds to me like he's just making a guess and doesn't really know for sure. If the D900 is announced I don't think it will be replacing the D700 but it'll exist along side it. The actual D700 replacement (D800?) will show up later this year along with an updated D3X.

    they'll all be too $$$$

I think they'll release them for sure, but keep the 24 2.8 and 35 2.0 around for cost reasons alone. . .

The D900 theory is def gaining ground. . .we'll see soon, Feb's almost here!

When did Canon change their mind? I thought they skip attendance this year . . .

btw, I love my SB-400. Small, light, uses just 2 AA's and bounces fine. From what I've read the SB-900 is terrific (particularly if you a flash bracket). I've got the SB-600 never use it. I bought it to slave off my D90, but it's menu structure, etc. isn't great (understatement) and it's too big to carry much or put on my camera.

There is a strong rumor of a Feb 9th announcement coming from canon. A metal bodied 60D with a swivel screen and a 1DsMk4 with 30+ megapixels are rumored to appear.

It seems that canon Japan will not be attending PMA 2010 but I think canon USA is still going to show up to talk about their cameras and show off any newly announced stuff. They will not be there as an exhibitor with a huge stand for people to try out their cameras.

A D700 body with D3S sensor and good video functionality would be ideal. Some updated and/or faster primes, particularly at the wider end, would also be great. Those wide primes haven't been updated since the early 90's - we're pushing 20 year old designs now.

    I would like to see:

Affordable 24mp FX body. Anything else would be a big disapointment.

An EVIL would also be nice, but I would aactually purchase the new FX body.

I might have a project that could pay for the upgrade (considering that I sell my D300 + tokina 11-16 f/2.8 and possibly my sigma 20mm f/1.8 to buy a FX body + 14-24 (the lens of my dreams really) and a 28mm f/1.8 from sigma..

How do you guys think the D900/D800/D700x/D700s might cost?

I'm hoping for the same price as the D700 for the D700s and I hope a 24mpx version wouldn't be too expensive.

Completely off topic but... anyone got suggestions instead of that slow and not so sharp 28mm f/1.8?

I'd suggest waiting to see what lenses Nikon announces in the next month or two. Or can it not wait?

Do you really need to throw your money on this crappy 28 Sigma for just an additional 4mm over the fantastic 14-24? I would much rather go for not so expensive, light and all around Nikon 24-120 VR.

Possibly because although the majority of Canon 50D owners like it, there were a few who really hated the 50D and this is to silence them maybe?

Early adopters are going to be very annoyed. I know I would if this was true. It's like buying a D80 the day the D90 was announced.

Not sure I understand what you're talking about NSX. The 60D is more than likely a 7D with less features like "only" 720p HD video and less megapixels and fps. The 50D was up for a replacement this year already so who would the annoyed early adopters be?

Nikon announcements usually come on Mondays at midnight (Tuesday) US Eastern time. The debate is whether the Feb 2nd COOLPIX announcement is something different than the Feb3rd press conference. Usually cameras are announced on Nikon's website and then the press is given a chance to see/handle the new gear at the press event.

If in two hours tonight, Nikon doesn't update their website with new COOLPIXes than that will kill the hope that they will announce a new DSLR at a separate event on Feb 3rd :^(

No COOLPIX tonight so the chances of a new Nikon DSLR just went down :^(

Looks like tonight is Fujifilm's night to announce all of it's new cameras. The HS10/11 looks interesting. It has a 24-720mm equivalent zoom range in a very DSLR looking compact camera.

I hear its two more essentially useless coolpix cameras and two FX lenses. This is okay because PMA is on the way and we should see some real goodies then!^^
