You know what bothers me?...... Seeing people doing travel photography with their "consumer" DSLRs with a battery grip. Why add all that weight and size to a camera while your traveling? Is anyone really going to shoot more than the ~2000 shots you can get from the regular battery?

Is there any point avoiding it? I have a grip on my D40 to make it look more ligit. As I've said before, size matters. That's pretty much my photo manta.

As for the topic at hand: I'm a senior in high school and I use the old fashioned method. I don't like LiveView because I'm a traditionalist and I was taught to do it the original way and because I personally don't think you can really make a good composition at arm's length, nor can it be at all comfortable to look at a screen and try to focus.

I am an old person in a young'un's shoes. I prefer to do everything manually.

Honestly, I can't wait to upgrade to a DSLR with D-Movie. I think it would be awesome to have that ability, even if it's not the highest quality.

#1 bonus of a grip is not having to worry about charging your battery when you get home... and as a pro who goes places, with the knowledge that you will take over 2000 images, do I really want to carry a D3 around for family photos?

You'll have a strong neck and biceps too. You will be legit.

How about an extra battery for your dxx, dxxx, or dxxxx and swap it out as needed? Small, light, cheap, and you don't look like a "photographer" with nice gear to steal.

My point is exactly that... why carry around the equivalent of a d3 for family travel pics? which adding the battery pack essentially would turn a D700 into (but even heavier). I wish I had a d90/d5000 just for this reason. But I'll settle for my D700 with small prime.

I wasn't kidding. It really is my pet peeve.
