for a more complete list. I haven't seen Nikon's number, but will continue to look. I'm heartened by the level of activity by companies in imaging technology.
I wouldn't read too much into the "activity" ted. Sony, Samsung,Panasonic and Canon make a lot of other products other than cameras. I doubt that even half of the patents they submit have anything to do with their camera divisions. Just because a patent is granted doesn't mean an actual product will result from the filing.
I came up with 159 patents issued to Nikon for 2009.
Thanks Astro. I do understand many of these companies have broad technology bases with the patents spread across multiple product areas. Nikon's patents tend to be image related, but many are from microscope applications or semi-equipment. I was simply interested in the relative amounts of R&D spending these patent numbers reflect, but I've been involved in high tech since the 70s and find things like this interesting.
