A Sony rumors site is claiming that three "very" reliable sources have "confirmed" that Sony will unveil a 30+ (32?) MP a950 camera at PMA. This is why some believe that Bob Krist is actually using the new Sony in his blog post from the other day. Wow 32mp for the price of around $3000USD!

What if canon also brings a 32mp 1DsMk4 and all Nikon brings is a butt load of new COOLPIXes and a D90 replacement!?

I can hear it now, "All hands prepare to abandon ship!"

Niko - we had a pre PMA launch of d3s already, so doesn't expect anything else :)

The thing is Niko, Nikon gets sensor from Sony, therefor Nikon patiently waits for their turn with any Sensor that Sony might unveil. Unless Nikon finds a different sensor manufacturer arrangement they will newer be first on the market with a higher MP camera

Just when I thought my 2tb Drobo would be enough! Good Greif... what would a 32MP raw file be?

    I hope it supports SDXC

So I'm going to venture a guess and say this new chip will end up in the D3xs??

Doesn't surprise me much, but I'm sure in Sony's hands, this sensor will be a NOISE machine. . .what's remarkable is if it is real, we'll be exceeding resolution of film for the first time in a non-medium format body. . .sweet!

I'm thinking more like a future D4X. Sony's recently announced point & shoot cameras are showing some vast improvement in noise control. The samples I've seen of the HX5V at ISO 3200 look very good! Remember there was a time when Nikon was known as a noise machine too.

I'm starting to wonder about Nikon's PMA. It's either going to be one of the greatest PMAs in a long time or one of the most over-hyped and disappointing ones. Remember last year when all we got was a Blues Traveler concert as the "BIG EVENT" :^(

I will say that Sony is patenting like crazy for imaging devises. Points to a lot of developing of new sensors. A few I saw recently were to improve well depth in CCD/CMOS chips. This should lead to greater dynamic range for small pixel imagers.

If true this means we will have Nikon 30+ Mpix D4 by the end of this year.
And it will be 3 months later then Sony and 3 times more expensive using the same sensor.
And people ask why Nikon should develop his own sensors.

Actually, shivas, the canon 7D has higher resolution than a 32MP FF sensor would. It's 18MP with a 1.6x crop. That works out to a density that would give you 18MP*(1.6^2) = 46MP on FF. I don't think physical sensor resolution is the whole story, though.

I'll bet people who've tried the Nikon D3x and the Sony A900 would argue that Nikon is designing their own sensors even if they're not manufacturing them. It's a subtle difference, and I guess if anyone thinks there's no difference they can just abandon ship like the traitorous OP is suggesting.

There is more then an obvious difference do not get me wrong, Nikon has the line for finishing sensors by adding micro lens, Bayer CFA and packaging so they are far from being the same as Sony.
My point is they could be able to put out new and better sensors on the market sooner without the constraints agreement with Sony brings.

That's true, mb, but it may be even less cost effective than the way they do it now as I think they'd need to invest in some new fab facilities with all the extra overhead that brings.

If Canon can do it I suppose Nikon can too, then again it does require some serous feasibility study so I am most likely wrong.

Hmm, 30MP. Those will be huge files, then again I can fit 4x2TB drives in my tower, so that should be fine. ;)

Considering the D3x sensor is based off of a Sony chip (right?) then I could see this new Sony chip being engineered by Nikon for a release this December or something. D3Xs.

My Nikon PMA prediction is the D700 replacement. D700s. D3s sensor in a D700 body with video capabilities. And I'd love to see some new lenses, like an updated 85mm f/1.4 and an updated 200mm f/4 macro lens.

Anybody see the post out there on ByThom.com about Sony slipping from the number 3 spot? Crazy stuff. They must be loosing a crap load on their camera division (its touch competing on price).

Actually I don't really care if Sony has that new sensor or not. But what if Pentax finally gets that 645 Digital on the Market, rumored to be sold for app the same cost as a Nikon D3X, wow their are some sweet Pentax Med Format primes to be bought

You're late Pete. I already mentioned the 30+ mp medium format Pentax 645D

    http://nikonrumors.com/forum/topic.php?id=765&page=2#post-22393

Rumored to be announced at PMA2010.

Yes I know, just thought it would fit in, actual I used a 645 Pentax before not a bad camera actually, Do you think it will happen this time, they have rumored this camera the last few years with a few extra MP every year

It has been vaporware for Pentax for several years now. I guess we'll know in a few weeks time. I hope they've worked on the body design just as much as the sensor. The mock-ups I've seen seem kinda clumsy.

I wonder if this Pentax will use the same Kodak sensor (KAF-37500) as the Leica S2? Wouldn't that be something!

I hope that it would handle like the Film 645, it was not that bad to shot with. Yes the KAF-37500 sensor would sure make it a great camera, but could that be done in the D3X price area

Well Sony has the "same" a900 sensor in the much more expensive D3X so...

There is more to the $30,000USD price of an S2 than just the sensor. There is that red dot on the front of it too. That dot alone is worth at least $20,000USD :^)
