Here is one of the legends of the dirt track racing crowd....one or two of you may recognize him without looking on Flickr. This is a portrait done with the 16-35mm f/4.0 VR Nikkor at 35mm.

Fizzking, neat shot.
El_Pick, yep, PAD is pretty discreet place. I will link the shot on my facebook page! But congrats. Dance away!
CE, nice lighting.
Benji, now I will have to find my one mushroom shot!Posted 6 months ago # -
go for it, Yeti. :) Not a spectacular shot in terms of lighting or comp, but I thought it was fun to see how that mushroom popped out of the ground.

The shallow DOF of the 24mm and how smoothly it fades away from the main focus point is fantastic....and the bokeh is so buttery smooth it just lovely.

As she is getting starting out in the music business, I don't think she would mind free publicity. :P Given that there are a couple dance weekends we're going to this month, and that dancers are not exactly quiet with body language, this is not really a secret thing. Just not really an announced thing. It will be / already is pretty obvious without having to say anything, as I have seen repeatedly with other dance couples since I have joined that community.

Congrats El Pickerel. What I told my son is that once you put it online it's visible to anyone with a phone until the end of time. Hope she likes cameras.
Last architectural shot for a while.

That DOF is very thin at full aperture. I have a tough time taking closeup pictures of anything moving! You are not alone. It is just the physics of shooting at such large apertures.
I personally would not use this lens (24 1.4G) for fast moving objects. I think the 24-70 2.8 at 24mm would be a far better choice. For the time I have owned this lens, I find that my usage will be for close stationary subject (a little movement would not hurt) @ 1.4, night photography and should I ever shoot video, this and the 50 1.4 as well.

Agreed - Part of my choosing the 24mm f/1.4 was for dance photography, as the light is never great there, and isolating subjects up close with a shallow DOF seemed like a great idea. The lens still yields excellent results when the focus hits, but it was a learning curve to get consistent results, and I definitely can't use this lens like I would use my 70-200 or 24-70 or 50 f/1.8D. Now that I am on full frame, 24mm is a little wide for full frame, so I usually shoot it at DX crop since I do not imagine I will ever need 36mp folk dance photos. A dance weekend could mean processing and uploading hundreds of photos, and keeping the size down helps tremendously with that too.
All that said, I am curious about the 28mm f/1.8G and how slowly / quickly that focuses. That or a 35mm prime would be very desirable for my dance stuff. I should probably try the DX 35mm f/1.8G more for the dances - the corners really don't matter, and I usually wind up shooting at 1.2x or 1.5x crop anyways...

@proudgeek - Unfortunate that's your last for a while, love your eye for architecture.
@zhinsara - Looks delicious. Risotto is one of my favorite dishes to make. Mushroom parmesan being my favorite so far.Great images are populating the early part of November. Great images by all.
Another promo shot of the musician. Once he pulled out the guitar things became very natural. The black and white really seems to be doing this series justice.
