A different technique. Photographed trees in early morning fog and then supersaturated the colors to bring them out of the gray. Result: a painterly effect.

Thank you Bland & msmoto.
Thank you msmoto
welcome tangopop, look forward to seeing your posts
Tangopop: Fun golf shot. Consider the rule of thirds? (too much sky). Sedona has some of the world's most beautiful landscapes, sunsets and views... keep shooting.
Down here in Texas, we are just getting the first of the cold weather, so on Saturday, we were all out at my local university, tailgating. As it was 80 degrees and bright sunshine, shorts, T-shirts lots of burgers'N'beer were the order of the day.
Some people tailgate simply and others have a truck to haul the sofas, tents, Foosball, games, grill(s) and so on. Seeing just such a large set-up I got out my camera and being the well trained photographer I am, just powered the thing on without thinking and got the first shot away as soon as possible using what I thought were the default settings. Of course, they were not, so the second shot I did was much more realistic... and boring.
This is the second (boring) shot:

So then, back to the image this is really about...
On a "Sunny 16" kind of day, having the shutter set at half a second (on manual from the previous shoot) is going to seriously over expose the picture. In fact is was almost totally washed out. Processing it in Photoshop, I needed to lower exposure by 2 stops before I got even this amount of detail. As it was so bare, I passed the image to the Nik HDR software and played about in there to get this, a kind of "Burning Man" desert effect. I kind of like it - and it shows what you can do with a "failed" image, even if it isn't quite the original intended image.
Hi guys
I dare my first post here with a view from Santorini

D80 - 18-135mm @ 100mm f/8 - 1/1000 - ISO 125
I really like the effect, bjrichus. Even if it wasn't intentional it turned out quite cool. :]
D800 • ZF.2 100mm f2 @ f2.2 • 1/250 • ISO 125 • SB-700
I was helping a friend move his sailboat up the CT river today. I was pumped to see an Osprey so late in the year. Tough on a moving boat.. We saw 6 Eagles which was cool too.

Thanks. I have to say it is an entirely arbitrary result (I was experimenting on an otherwise failed shot), so it is a surprise. The sky in the full size image (800px wide is never enough), has lots of gradation and has a much smoother effect to it.
I like the way the SB700 in your shot gave a perfect amount of fill light. Its a good argument to go out and always use flash for portraits.
'Like the light on the little island and the color it produces Pippigurl.
Welcome mihaich.
I posted a similar pic in color earlier, I think that BW brings out the force of the wave much better. (My son stayed dry, no worries, but it was close :) )
Sick shot, fozzy.
Here is a landscape shot of The Golden Thrown in Capitol Reef NP.... For those who are western buff's... Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid would come to this area to lay low on occassions.

Something different for me. Not entirely sure I like the effect. Fall colors reflected in a stream.

I figure I can let myself post one or two dance photos, since it's been a while since I last did that. This one with the D800 and no noise reduction. Definitely beats the D7000 at ISO 6400 - I never liked going beyond ISO 3200 on the D7000.
D800 - Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 VC - 32mm - f/2.8 - ISO 6400 - 1/160sec
I meant to post this earlier in the day so hopefully I wont get busted for posting two within the same 24 hour block if I post in the evening "later today."

Thanks yeti and msmoto, and the people who commented on my flickr.
Very nice landscapes yeti, rschnaible and fozzyffp.
Here's one more of the little one. She's bringing out the whole model routine in this one.
Wow, page 13 is certainly one of the best I have seen so far on PAD! Thanks everybody, a lot of inspiration.
Another Turkey, this one is best viewed at full resolution.

@Rifqi : nice, soft touch there !
@benji : i love the picture of the stream .... perfect blur
@Coastal: I'm sure you don't intend any harm, but flashing a bird at close range damages the retinas... not trying to be the "wiseguy" ...read it in a bird forum,and also a research paper.... so thought of sharing it. :)
@Fozzy: great shots !! ...
@shuttered: interesting portrayal!
Here's mine : Caught this Long-tailed Shrike by surprise (or was it the other way round?!) ... had to crouch, freeze and take a snapshot ... it appeared that the plants in the foreground had ruined the shot ... yet, if you look with half closed eyes, it's a Singer with his mic !! :)
