Just for curiosity's sake, here are some interesting facts. In October of 2012 we had 823 posts on Photo-A-Day by 72 members. This is compared to October 2011 when we had 205 posts by only 40 members. A growth increase by photos of over 300% and an 80% increase of participating members.

Now if I could only get my stock portfolio to mimic this........
    Nice stats indeed.

@David, from my perspective in order to accentuate the path, the shot needs to be taken from a higher point-of-view threw the forest. However, I'm not sure if this can happen given the density and hight of the trees from your position. Keep in mind if you cannot get high, then go low and horizontal. Use your widest lens...10, 12, 14mm...a fish-eye may also add a very unique perspective.

yes, also stop down the exposure 1 stop down. The contrasts are a little shallow and the colors do not have a lot of punch, which is typical in forest shots. The question here is what the subject is and what the background. If the path is the subject, show it all the way and don't cut it off lower right and mid left.

@rensuchan Funny you put that up, when on Friday I was shooting photos of my friend with her dulcimer on a highway bridge. She wanted to use a more urban setting to contrast the typical natural environments that are pictured alongside dulcimers.

Great work here guys. Back from my dance weekend, so much to catch up on! Here's a shot of my local park in the meantime. I love seeing all the B&W used in the past few pages. :)

@fozzyffp, I love the color in your shot!

@El_Pickerel, that character's natural setting would be in the forest as well... but that would have been impossible since I was in the middle of Detroit at the convention so I guess you have to work with what you got :)

I found some good subjects at Huntington beach State Park who didn't run away from me this time.I think they just got here from CoastalConn land.
After that nasty storm, I hope all is well there and in my home state of NJ.

In hindsight I wish I had centered him up and stepped back about two steps to get more of a complete shot.

@Tangopop Play that course last year, the course has some amazing views. Nice shot. As for the photo, here are my recommendations for you to keep in mind: shot in RAW, up the shadows, saturation and vibrance (on the sky). Next time pay attention to the corners (i.e left building that is cropped), wait for the group on the green to get off so you have a "clean" image. If you intention is to amplify the mountain rang, go wide and if you have C-PL use it. If the fairway is the target, get low and focus your shot on the green.

    My share for the day:

I missed a few days and I was mentioned twice, I'm flattered! Work and weather has not cooperated here. I see I missed some outstanding shots...

I learned a valuable lesson today. I had never seen White Winged Crossbils before. In my normal fashion I got really close. These birds were so happy gorging on these pine cones they didn't notice me. My lens focuses down to 8.2 feet (a little under 3 meters). I actually had to back up a little.

Lesson learned at 9 feet, F8 @ 500mm DOF is 3/8" or 1 cm... Not a typical shot from me, but valuable info :)
