With all the nostalgia surrounding film and older cameras I got out my old Nikon kit yesterday and player around with it for a bit. The F3HPs do have bright big finders and they are all metal, but I found the body oddly un-ergonomic. It felt heavy and awkward in comparison with my D90. I don't mind the D90 finder either.

Made the decision to dump all my old film bodies. 3 F3HPs, 1 F2A and 3 Contax G2s. I should get enough for a D300s and another tripod.

If you don't like carrying that extra battery, how do you feel about carry all those cans of film. My memory card and battery last for many hundreds of uninterrupted photos and without a ridiculous back my film cameras stopped every 36 exposures.

I have my old FE2 on the desk here sitting at me. I miss using the camera, but I really don't miss processing and printing the film. I still have my Axomat enlarger, and a few other tools, and probably my bulk film loader. But I spent too many long nights trying to get the color correct printing color pictures in my kitchen, I won't do that again. It is too hard to control the temperature, takes too long to print, decide on color correction, print again.....

Now B&W would not be too bad, but I just don't move images to paper anymore. I have a 30 inch monitor, and would rather look at them there.

Well said Sandpiper! I agree with you 100%! I love the memories of film and still enjoy it every now and then but I'm not going to sell my digital gear and "switch" back to film.

You digital people make my life so easy :)

I just scored a great condition Durst Laborator L1000 on ebay for $25. I'm going to pick it up over spring break when I'm home from college. Not bad considering that enlarger is usually found for at least $400 up into the $900-$1200 range.

Pretty good deal Chris, but do you know how to use it, lol ;^)

Hey I came across a box filled with some old test strips. Am I the only person who saves their test strips?

Boxes and boxes. I like hard drives with back-up better.

I have yet to have an old box die on me and not be able to take my photos out of it! :^)

Of course, Niko, I have a 4x5 Omega D-II at the moment at my home darkroom, along with an old Durst 606. Schneider Componon-S lenses in all of them. Here at school we use the Beseler 23C Mk.2s, which I don't like nearly as much as my Omega.

Yeah, they don't have the grips that modern SLR's do, that's the only thing. But honestly, they're way thinner than most modern DSLRs too.

It was weird shooting with a FM2 when I'm used to a D40. I keep looking down and I see the outside of the film back and remember, oh yeah, I'm actually shooting film so I can't see it until I develop it.

    *facepalm*

I totally do the same thing!

The grips on modern slr's dont compare to the crap you could attach to your nikon F2. 250 shots a roll too...

    Holy crap!

How many FPS can that thing crank out?

I do not want to carry that for the whole day.

It's not the FPS, NSX, it's the ability to not have to reload and miss a moment. But incidentally I believe it's about 4.5-5.

I see the point, when you're moving at that speeds you'll chew through film really quick if it's 24 or 36 exposures.

That's still a respectable frame rate.

On a side note, the F5 will do 8 right?

That's right up there with current DSLRs. Impressive stuff.
