Many of you may remember the post on the missing lens numbers:

Since then the 85 f3.5 (#2190), 300 f2.8 (#2186) and TC 20E III (#2189). And here's the current list:
#2181 – AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED (announced April, 2009)
#2182 – ???
#2183 - AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G (announced February, 2009)
#2184 – ???
#2185 – AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II (announced July, 2009)
#2186 – AF-S 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II
#2187 – ???
#2188 – ???
#2189 – TC 20E III
#2190 – AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR
#2191 – ???
#2192 – AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II (announced July, 2009)
#2193 – ???

So make your predictions for the missing model numbers (2182,2184,2187,2188,2191, 2193+). As new lenses are released this year we will come back and see who was most accurate. You win nothing but the right to boast about you predictive skills.

2182: 35mm f1.4 AF-S
2184: 24mm f1.4 AF-S

My guess would be

24mm 1.4
35mm 1.4
60mm 1.4
85mm 1.4
A new 200-400 or comparable in f/2.8
A new 24-120 replacement for the existing one

There's a market for that lens, alpha. Basically every event photographer I know would want one.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a 70-200 f/4 VR, call that one 2184 for me
2193 55-165 f/2.8 DX VR
2182 200 f/4 macro VR
2187 fast 35mm

I dont know what they will be but I want a 28-85 F2.8 DX vr.... sigh.. I know... i will never get one from nikon.. but hope tamron or sigma will bring out one...

I think I understand :^D

You see, the thing is, I've never actually used VR, so I don't have a need for it in any of my lenses. I've lived without it for so long, that I love the 24-70mm (which I haven't used either) perfectly without the VR. Now, if they added a double nanocrystal coat or something, that would be interesting!

That's kinda like saying "Me and my wife have lived for all our lives without kids. Ergo family cars are useless."

Sure, it's perfectly fine to say you don't need something, but you can't use it to argue against the usefulness of that thing. Even kit lens have VR nowadays, 24-70 is a much more serious piece of glass with a longer tele end - enough good reasons to bring VR in.

Have no idea on the lenses, but looking through a catalog of speedlights made me realize most of Nikon's flashes have been announced at PMA.

Question being, can the SB-700 be any more stripped down than the SB-600 already is? ;)

EDIT: Oh! I guess they can remove all (non-M) modes but i-TTL like the 900 did.

Technically, I do need VR, just as long as I haven't tried it I can't figure how useful it is. It's not in my budget anyway, so that's a good thing too.

And I'm not saying it's useless. But I think the 24-70's good enough, without VR possibly degrading my superior image quality ;^)

We got one winner and it was... umm... me! I predicted 2184 would be the 24 f1.4. But I got 2182 wrong. Did I miss any other winners above?

So the revised list is below. You can still make your prediction on the remaining numbers.

Didn't the Nikon Roadmap predict some of these? Or is it off?

Good job on the guess for 2184!

I'm wondering what they'll do next. . .I don't think I can be "convinced" to buy anymore lenses now, I'm pretty content. . .although if they bring out an entry level FX model, it'll all go to hell (haha!)

Maybe that's where the 16-35/4, 24 1.4, 50 1.4, 85 1.4, and 70-200 updates are for - an AF-crippled FX body (forcing us to buy their newer more expensive AF-S lenses). . .

Astro...make that two correct....your not the only one that said 24mm 1.4. I too missed the other one....more yet to come....

Unfortunately I didn't see a number matched to the lens, but now I see you meant the sequence?
