Panama, that's a sweet shot. I wish we had these out here. I'm still trying to track down their close relative the Spotted Owl.

Nice shot Aaronfoto. I know some people who look like that. Wait...isn't that Mick Jagger? LOL

You all may see a few more shots of this bird. I personally love how most of them turned out.

Common Goldeneye. Lake Merritt; Oakland Ca.Posted 3 years ago # -
You said what?

Monty, I like the picture, but I would like to have the focus on the eyes rather than the nose. Hal

To be honest I can't really tell where the focus exactly is in this shot. If you look the hind legs are quite nicely in focus alos. I think the problem with the eyes is that the dog was in the process of shaking itself, that is how I got the peculiar pose and why the nose is more in focus than the eye.
I think in such a case where you have to get the shot in such a short timeframe, it is pretty much up to the camera :DPosted 3 years ago # -
I can see now that the center of rotation of his shake of the head is the nose, blurring the eye. Nice shot.

More Golden Eye Photo's!! Gentoo, there is so many of these guys here its crazy. But they are so nice to shoot, and the eyes are amazing when you catch them just right.

PE, at least you got to catch the display. All the ones in Oakland seem more interested in feeding and only stay on the surface for 10 or 15 seconds before diving again.

Not the sharpest, but dramatic. A peregrine attacking a coot.
And missing.
1st time I've even seen a peregrine.

Ooh great capture astro!

Had about 30mins to spare and went to my fav briding spot.. but was in too much of a hurry and was not well prepared.. so no real keepers at all :-( oh well try again soon. but this one is half decent.

Id say that's a keep hearty :)

sorry hearty but it's not. it's not sharp, and the background is.... very not interesting - especially the legs . In situations like that I would probably go either extremely wide - to show this bird and it's surroundings or go extremely close - to show some details.
astro - nice ones, You could crop them a little bit, as the background is distracting, and straighten the horizon; nevertheless, it's a very dynamical picture and therefore a really good one
PE - I really like the second one, and the way You managed to capture water, it's so silky smooth :)

Didn't realize what I had until later. This does show a hunting characteristic of peregrines. Their best vision is 45 degrees to the side. The photos show it approaching at an angle. Only when they close in do they switch to stereoscopic vision.
