What does your labrador think of all this, Keith?

edit: I just read your text above the photo that goes with it. Next time I'll try to pay more attention!

You guys take such fantastic photos of animals. I am really impressed. Especially Gentoo, wow! Those bird shots are super terrific. A question:
Gentoo: Do you use a circular polarizing filter when you shoot?

I just got a Bigma 50-500mm--the older version--and I am hoping that I will be able to use it well. It does not have any kind of image stabilization. I got it for $620 yesterday and am having a bit of buyer's remorse at the moment.

Thanks and no, I only use a UV filter.

I doubt CPL will be useful for bird shooting because it has EV loss around -0.6

Yep, which is why I no longer use them. I tried them in the beginning but didn't like them much.

This was done with a polarizer:

As you can see I could not use the reflection of the water like I do. And this is the most I could get, most of the time during this shoot it looked as if the swan was floating in space.

The cat at my mom's house is almost too good a hunter. Her name is Coons–named by my son, who thought she was a cougar but couldn't pronounce it. She's always leaving half-eaten birds on their back doorstep. Sorry, members of the Audubon Society.

I caught this hunt in progress but the longest lens I had with me was a 50mm. The mouse didn't fare very well.

ok jonnyapple wow, that defines the meaning of right place at the right time. Also with how quick that would go down you are pretty darn fast.

JA - Your first photo is really nice, especially with the small mouse waiting for it's time; as for the second one... shutter is too slow

Okay, so I NEVER photograph birds. I absolutely hate it. Probably my least favorite thing to photograph. But this Osprey was just sitting there eating that fish and my brother made me. Haha

    Sorry for the photobucket quality.

Ok, here is my first photo to NikonRumors. It is courtesy of JonnyApple, who has assisted me by taking my file and posting it to his account, then sending it to me. I sent him four photos froma recent outing to the San Diego Wild Animal Park. All the photos are of animals from that great park.

They are resized—they have the same filename but with thumb at the end. DSC_0156.jpg and DSC_0156thumb.jpg, for example.
I think emailing the img tags broke them by inserting a carriage return instead of a space inside the tags.
