astrophotographer, very nice. Haven't got a shot of a Harrier yet. Almost did at the Chula Vista Nature Center a few days ago.

Gentoo, I can always recommend the San Elijo Lagoon. I was just there today and caught the same Harrier. The Harrier tends to be near the N Rios st. entrance. There's also an osprey that's a regular but is usually too far away at the center of the salt marsh.

I'll post some of the new Harrier shots soon.

    Regulator, nice shot as usual.

Astro, I am not able to get up that way but I will look for harriers around here. I see them but can never get a shot of them.

It's shaping up to be a great month in the animal department. Great photos, everyone.

Rob, I love the symmetry and the lighting and framing are great. That is the same swan on both sides, right? If it's one shot, the timing is absolutely fantastic.

    Thank you jonnyapple

The shot is with a mirrored swan, the original shot is on my flicker page. I actually used a film compositing program (Nuke) to do it because it was easier then doing it in photoshop. I think photoshop could learn a few things from nuke but thats a different topic. So yes the shot is mirrored but shhh dont tell anyone haha

Sorry I let the swan out of the bag. ;-)
I'm intrigued about Nuke. I assume you mean film as in video and not as in 'not digital.' I took a look at your website and I guess film is your real interest, eh? In what way is it easier to do this than in photoshop? Just curious.

Well its node based which is like putting a puzzle together really. Also it is built around combining digital imagery with real footage so when you can create roto's, pull keys, etc it makes combining them alot easier they just trying to erase, use selections and layers. They are just missing a few things that apps have in the film world and I think photoshop could really benefit from them. I would love to have them both combined lol

I know how to do it in photoshop but its just faster and blends better in something like nuke.

To much D-Lighting Gentoo washed the background away, very sharp lens ...

I don't think I applied D-Lighting here LOL. I know I didn't use active D Lighting. Perhaps the exposure compensation was off.

The crow is quite good, Gentoo. Pulling detail out of the black feathers is a challenge.

Thanks astro and you're right. Most of my crow shots are just black bird shaped blobs.

Saffron Finch. This species is native to South America. However there was one living free in Oakland Ca.

Gentoo, that is a great shot, but you hit the nail on the head as to why I use Capture One. The detail in the blacks is incredible even pushed with contrast. With most other RAW developers, when you increase the contrast a bit, black detail is lost which is simply not an issue with CO. I have spoken to Phase One reps in depth about this, and black detail is really the weakness of the software, not the camera. That is what I mean when I speak of deep shadows.

Ok, thanks pabnj. I am guessing by the name that this is also a Nik software? If so then I can perhaps go to Nikons website to get it?
