Hello, Guys
I am just wondering if 16-85mm + 50mm f1.8 is good combination to cover the daily shooting?
I am planning to upgrade to this lens setup, especially the quality of 16-85mm, however the 16-85mm is kinda expensive now.
If you have a better combination, please list.
Please advise!

Your setup sounds pretty good to me! Only thing I might change would be the 50mm to the 35mm ƒ/1.8 if (and only if) I needed a little bit more of a wideanlgle lens. What are your current lenses?

I only have the 18-55mm kit lens right now.
Correct me if I am wrong: if I bought the 16-85mm, it could cover wider angle than 35mm, right?

No, you're not wrong at all. It can cover much wider than 35mm, just not at ƒ/1.8. If you need a fast lens that's a little more wideangle then I would get the 35mm over the 50mm. Sorry I didn't make that clear.
Sounds pretty good to me, I have both the 35mm and the 50mm and I love them both. It depends on what you want to use your fast prime for. I love the 35mm for just walking around and I like the 50mm better for portraits. Now that I have the 35mm, the 50mm doesn't find its way to my camera very much. I only bring it out for certain job.

The reason I would like to choose 50mm f1.8 is for the portrait and it's price.
What body are you going to add it to? One down fall of the 50mm for me is it wont AF with my D60, might not be a problem for you. Since you want it for portraits I think is a great set up.

I agree. The 35mm is a great lens.
Well then, I say make up your mind based on how you want to use the lens. The 35mm is a great all-purpose lens, while the 50mm is more like a portrait lens. If I were you, unless I saw a FX body somewhere in the future, I would go with the 35mm. But once again, it all depends on how you are going to use it.
One more thing I thought about: the AF-S 35mm 1.8g on DX body will have equivalent 50mm focal length on FX body; but the AF 50 mm 1.8D on DX body will have equivalent 75mm focal length on FX body. So from this point of view, is 35mm lens better for portrait then 50mm as I would not bug a FX camera for the next decade maybe.
For portraiture you tend to want to have a telephoto lens, making the 50mm a more ideal choice. Unless you want to do an environmental portrait or fit in more people—in that case the 35mm would be a better decision.
16-85 on its own should cover daylight no problem, but I'm not a fan of that lens' particularly slow aperture range of 3.5-5.6. I usually just stick a 35/2 or 50/1.4 on my F3 or F4 and am done with it.
go for 35/1.8 it looks more natural on DX sensor than 50mm - which is giving You a neither a portrait, neither nothing else perspective
I agree with adamz, the 35 is a better choice. I don't find 50mm in DX long enough for a portrait lens. On FX 85 is on the short end for portraits, 75mm equivalent is...
You'll love the 16-85. I find it much better than I expected, one of my all-time favorite Nikon lenses.
The 16-85 is the lens which I always have on my D300 (When I'm not on an airport that is), and it is so good that I don't feel the need to buy another lens. If light is too weak, I just push the ISO to 800 or 1600. When it's not on my D300, I fit it to my D60. :o)
