How many GB in total of memory cards do you use now

3 1/2 Years ago on shooting my first wedding with a DSLR I have a total of 6 GB (three 2 GB cards) they were expensive at that time. Now I have app 50 GB of memory cards

It is sure easier to shot a larger event when you have no concern of running out of memory and you have more time to assure that files are properly backed up before formatting your memory card

What is your total amount of memory cards

I just purchased my largest one yet today, 16GB 60MB/Sec Sandisk for $99,98 Can and made my think how large the cards are getting. BTW I paid $100+ for my first 2GB cards each

8GB + 8GB + 2GB + 2GB + 4MB ;^) = 20GB

LOL, I don't even have that much space on my computer!

I'm not sure how much my cards cost, my dad bought most of them and I stole them from him :^)

Yeah, I don't worry about running out of space when I shoot. Only when I was away on vacation for a month this year I felt how tight 16GB (what I had at the time) can be.

What do you use the 4 MB card for, you should give it back to your dad, just change the M to a G

The 4MB card is used as my settings backup.

And actually I did return a 4GB card to my dad, when I went on vacation this year my 16GB was made up of an 8GB, 2x 2GBs, and that 4GB card. When we got back I got another 8GB, so I gave him his 4GB back :^)

8x 8GB Sandisk and 6x 16GB,so 160GB, not that i ever use that much, initially i started out by having the 8GB's but then started liking 16GB's so now i have too much, but then again you can never have too much, i obviously didn't buy these all at once.
I also carry my Epson p7000 with me.

4x4GB CF cards and 10x4GB (cheap and slow) SD cards. I also carry a portable HDD with me.
My cameras use CF, but I mail home SD cards when I am out of town.
My policy is to always have two copies, so I import the CF card(s) at the end of the day to the HDD, toss the obvious duds, and back up to SD until one is full, then mail it home for the cost of one stamp.

24gb in sd cards - 3x8gb
and around 100gb in CF cards - couple 16GB, couple 8gb and one 2gb :)
+ HDD on the go, currently some old boosted epson drive p2000 (200gb drive :)), but will change it next year to something faster, as this drive is sooooooooooo sloooooooooowwww

For my D300, I have a primary 16GB card, and a back-up 8GB card. For my Sony DSC-F717, I have 6 2 GB cards (that was back in the day when 2 GB was a large card, and expensive).

I almost makes me cry to remember that I paid $ 60 for my first 64 MB CF card, some of your guys sure have tons of memory

I wish future DSLR would add dual memory card slots, to give you instant back-up, it could even be a micro SD slot

I might get a Netbook for travel back-up and picture viewing, they are surely getting cheaper, properly even used for you Soap

CF, 16+16=32 GB
SDHC, 16+8+8+4+4=40GB.

The CF's were far cheaper to get, spent about $80 total. . .sad how times have changed, since the SDHC cards were far older and more $$$. . .

I have a 4 GB SD card, and an emergency 2GB card that stays in my backpack.

I generally bring my laptop along to trips anyway, and I guess I've never taken more than the ~400 shots the 4 GB card gets me (raw+jpeg) in a single day. It's not a particularly fast card, but it's one of those that flips into a USB stick, so I don't need a card reader :).

These 4 GB are around $10 these days, I think more cards would be better, just to assure of double backup on your trip, what if you unload and format your card to your laptop and ups hard drive crash, or bring along some DVD's and make a copy right away

Also, a related question: what's the longest roll of film you ever had in a film camera? For me, 36. Compare that with around 550 D90 raw files from a single 8GB card. Kind of makes me want to go out and shoot some more pictures.

As far back as I can remember, 24-exposure roll. But I think I actually did a 36-exposure roll once, when I was really little. But I don't remember then, I just remember finding 36 pictures in one envelope when I was older.

Can't you get these insane things to hold a lot of film?

I've never needed more than 8gb on my D40, even shooting in RAW. My D90's files weigh in at around 4mb per photo (7-8 mb RAW) so that's a different story. I still think that if you can't get the job done in 8GB... well then just be glad you don't shoot film.

That said, memory cards are so cheap that you may as well keep a bunch around. 2 4GB cards is probably better than 1 8gb card as it gives you some measure of redundancy (you won't loose your entire shoot if a card fails\gets lost\damaged).

I've often kicked around the idea of using new cards for every shoot and letting my old card serve as the backup. Solid state off-site storage for just a few $\GB. Who'd of thought it would ever get that cheap LOL.

Funny, I had the same idea! But I figured what the heck, just put it on an even cheaper DVD.

But you'll be using the 8GB card farther in the future, while your 4GB card will become obsolete sooner. Better just to have dual card slots.

16 + 8 + 8 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 1 = 45 GB in total.

I typically use my 16 Class 6 card regularly.

Also carry my 160GB Netbook and a 160GB portable HDD when traveling (just incase).

I used to roll my own, and regulary had 38 exposures on a roll of film. For a brief while I used a high capacity back (science stuff - your tax dollars at work) and had about 100 exposures on a roll.

I was scratching my head, why someone would need a 16gb card. Then I remembered that newer DSLRs have 10 mega pixels and more, and most of you shoot in raw. Hmm...

I have like 8gb in SD cards, which I will never probably utilize. And one Ultra II 1gb Compact flash for my D70s.

I don't do back ups, and I shoot in jpeg so I am pretty good. Sometimes I back up onto my laptop if I am not too lazy.

I shot air-to-air for Gates Learjet with a Hasselblad 500C with 4 70mm backs. Each back held 15 feet of film.
