I'm with you guys. After I upgraded from the D80 to the D300, lust for FX was kept well in check. With some good noise reduction software, I bet I could get my ISO1600 shots to look even better. I'd rather get another flash or save for a 200-400mm VR. If you are going to step up, it is D3s/D3x or bust!
Mistake buying the D90 THIS month?

I went from a D100 to a D300 and I seriously thought I was in heaven. I lost a lot of friends because all I wanted to talk about was my camera (okay, slight exaggeration).Welcome to the forum, by the way, PB PM. I don't think I've seen you around yet.

Thanks for the welcome.
The temptation to move to the D700(s, x, h, 800, 900) will always be there, but I would love to have the built in grip of the pro bodies. I had the MB-D80 for my D80, and the MB-D10 for my D300, and almost never take the grips off. I also like the idea of having the superior weather sealing of the pro line (I shoot wildlife, birds etc) and would like to feel more comfortable shooting out in nasty weather.

So if I'm reading you right you're saying that you want to move from a D300 to a D3s/x to get a smaller body. ;-)
I'm pretty sure you're probably one of a select few people that can say that.
I looked at your site. You've got some great photos there.Posted 3 years ago # -
Somewhat of a size issue after all the D3(s/x) are slightly shorter (hight wise) than the D700 with the grip, which would save me the trouble of having to get a new bag. I think of it as more of a long term goal to have a pro body, maybe when the D4 comes out. In some ways I wish Nikon still made a DX body with a built in grip, which is why I have looked at the D2X a few times, but stayed away because it costs almost as much as my D300 did.

you'd think Nikon would've shrunk the MBD10 a little, because you're right, size wise the D300/700 gripped stands taller. . .I like the feel of the D2/3 bodies better than a gripped D300/700 body, just a weight and sealing thing, so on the same boat as you. . .
PMA is around the corner, so I'm sure your appetite will be whet then!

Oh I hope not, I just got the D300 after the D300s came out to save cash, no money for camera bodies this year.
As for the MB-D10, I like the grip itself, very comfortable, better grip than on the D300 itself. would be uncomfortable if it was any smaller.

I've been sort of thinking about getting the grip but for the same money I could get a flash or something...

I've wondered if spell check is going to change written English to get rid of some of our homophones.

I don't know if that's how they all are. It's not the end of the world either way, I guess.

Here's an example I just bumped into:
As for the MB-D10, like you said not the end of the world, just takes getting used to I guess. The only other thing I'm not too thrilled about is the lock switch is actually the reverse of the on-off—think about the confusion!

Do you like how I forgot to capitalize specifically? [facepalm]
At least it wasn't right after bragging about my own written English. That would have been worse.Posted 3 years ago # -
The shutter on the MB-D10 is a little more sensitive, but not as different as some might lead you to believe.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Do you find dealing the with lock-switch annoying because it's the reverse of the on-off switch?
Posted 3 years ago # -
I don't find it annoying, in practice it makes sense to have it the opposite. You really just have to use it, or it seems like it would be annoying.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Yeah, I figured it would eventually "integrate" itself into the workflow. The bodies with built in grips have it the same, right?
You know, it would be nice instead of having a lock the camera could just sense when it's vertical and automatically activate the vertical controls.
Posted 3 years ago # -
That would be nice, but it would be an excuse for them to bump up the price, as if it isn't expensive enough already.

Nikon did outsource its firmware, just a few months ago.
Posted 3 years ago # -
So what? Nobody's done anything particularly special with it yet.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Nikon hasn't released any new cameras since the outsourcing, so its hard to say if we will see any changes.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Agreed on that grip switch! Still the D90 is one of the best DSLR's of all time out there in comparison to what you get for the price (roughly 75% d300, 5%D700, and %20 D5000) ... (Obviously the D700 D3(s, x) and any hasselblad is better)

question... How does it work if a camera IS updated (D90rumored upgrade)? does the previous model go down in price or the newer model more expensive? If there is an upgrade of the D90 what price can we expect? (this question has probably be answered 100 times before...sorry!)

i'm confused about this, i thought i used whet correctly? hmmm, 4 years as an english major. . .

Whet is correct, but then it's English, not physics.

Yeah, you were right, shivas. I wasn't being sarcastic.
