If the recent rumor re announcement of a "new" D90 in Jan/Feb 2010 is correct, did I make a mistake buying mine this month? I mean, would the revised D90 be much better than the current one?
Like, no AF motor means lighter weight, but?
Articulated LCD means easier to use the LV and take weird angle shot.
What do you guys think?

I think there really never is no "good time" to buy a new Camera or Lens, you never know when they announce a new version, it could be just after you buy it.
If the rumor actually had been officially announced then waiting might be worth it, but since it has not, i think you did a great purchase in getting the D90, and its not really that old.
I got my 2nd D300 right before they announced the D300s ;D.
And i don't think the revised one will be that much better, maybe you should ask yourself how often you would be taking weird angle shots?.
The "new" D90 is just a rumor. You can use your D90 right now for picture taking. When a new camera comes out, then you can decide if it was a mistake. I wouldn't want the replacement if it had no AF motor, and believe the articulated screen of no value for me, so who knows. In the mean time, you've got a fantastic camera. I've had mine for about a year now and I just keep liking it more as I use it more. Congratulations, it's a great camera.
nikyvee - look at this from this perspective - there's no way You can accidentaly break Your screen on Your d90, which can't be spoken for the rumored new d90 with its articulated screen

I hesitated because of the price; I hesitated in case there was a new model in the pipeline; I hesitated because of the lack of an articulated screen; I hesitated because of the weight; I hesitated because it was a backwards step in terms of pixel count.
Then, LAST WEEK, I took the plunge and bought one.
Reading this rumour, just six days later, makes me feel quite sick. Every line in the rumour is like a stab in the heart.

I really wouldn't worry about the recent rumor, because its just that, a rumor (not a really well thought out rumor either). Trust me, I could create a random account on DPReview, say I know an insider from Nikon and then post up a bunch of thought out logical specs, and then all of the sudden, I'll be on the NikonRumors front page too. (Not to mention giving many new D90 owners such as yourself buyer's remorse because you'd probably think its true)
Seriously though, the D90 is one of the best cameras Nikon has ever made in terms of value. Since you purchased it recently, you must've gotten it for a really good price as well. Spend less time worrying about random rumors, and more time actually taking pictures.

Why does everyone worry about what maybe just around the corner to be released? I don't get it. I think Demisthene Akatsuki is right, there never really is a good time to buy a new camera, or anything high tech for that matter. If you buy something the moment they release it, you risk being a beta tester waiting for a firmware fix, meanwhile you are pissed off because you missed your shot because of a small bug. So you wait a little while and see what others have to say, and see if there are any bugs. Then you decide buy it, and get pissed because they just announced the latest and greatest. Just enjoy the fact that you can take great pictures now, don't worry about all the maybe possibilities of a new product. Figure it out when it's released, there is always eBay to sell off your old camera if you choose to get the newest model.
Special Canon people have been burned with Beta Cameras, right

That rumor is garbage. You should rest assured in your purchase.
Nick, my guarantee still stands. I may even buy your D90 from you if you're not satisfied. I love my D90 more every week, and I'm not looking forward to the day Nikon releases the next great thing and makes my D90 stop taking pictures. ;-)

You are, of course, correct. Technology moves forward so quickly that whatever you buy is upgraded after not too long, and you just accept it. It doesn't degrade what you've just bought one jot. But six days!
What makes it worse is that, for reasons I shan't go into, I've only taken a couple of dozen photos so far. That said, they do look excellent and I have no regrets. My only niggles are getting used to the control layout and the battery charger doesn't work.

Dunno. I charged the battery that came with the camera that same day. But it won't charge the additional battery (genuine Nikon) that I bought and won't do a second charge of the original battery. Just seems to be dead. I've checked all the obvious things.
as for new cameras, there are only two solutions possible:
- first - You buy the newest products and pay the price, to make them more affordable, You can sell Your current camera for +/- 40-50% paid price
- or - once the new body is on the market You buy the previous generation - You save a lot of money, but You are behind (from technological point of view)
I agree with Adam. I'd also add an additional strategy - you wait until higher end tech is released in a lower end product. The D90 getting the sensor from the D300 (D3 to D700).
I'd also recommend knowing which features you need, a landscape photographer doesn't need a high frame rate. If you don't have older lenses, you don't need an AF motor. A D5000 could be a better camera for some than the D300s, you just need to attend to you photographic needs, not cool technology and features.
I have the D70s and have also been thinking about the D90. But when I stop to think about it, the D70s does not limit me as a photographer even if it is now 3 generations old. Do you find that the D90 prevents you from taking the shots you want?
I have instituted a new rule to prevent me from being distracted from the new and shiny. No worrying about upgrades until my camera is 3 generations old unless I am truly limited by a missing feature.
...And rest assured, the D90 is an amazing camera!
Thank you guys for responding with some very sound advice. Let me assure you, and Jonny apple, especially, I LOVE my D90! Even though I was "wanting" the new D700, I am very glad that I bought the D90 when I did. I have had great fun learning to use the camera and taking so much better photos than I did before. Now if I could just get around to making a website with my photos, I would show some to you.
I STILL want the new/revised/upgraded D700, whatever it is called, and I still plan to buy it. BUT, I am NOT going to get rid of my D90. It is just too nice.

Hmmm, looks like you have a few overlaps Nick...I would "toss" the 18-105 and save up for something wide, fast, macro, or a combination ;^)
I'm glad to hear the D90 is treating you well, Nick. Now my dilemma is whether to replace the D90 with the D700 replacement like I was planning on doing or just spend the money on lenses (saving the money is not an option as I'm an American, after all). I'd like to see some photos from you in the PAD.
Me too, Jonny. I want to see some of my photos on the PAD. Just not getting around to setting up a flicker account.

After more than a year with my D90, I care much less about FX than I would have expected. Setting up flickr is really quick. see pictureted...

I'm in the same boat, Ted. I keep asking myself what the difference in image quality is worth to me and there are only a few situations where it makes sense to upgrade from an $800 body that offers so much.
