I'm new here, but I've asked Santa for a Speedlight 700 and a modest tripod. I currently have neither........
What Nikon gear are you asking Santa for this year? ^0^

Welcome to the forum, rb. Good choices, by the way.
Skintbrit, have you read Patrick McManus's short story called gun running? It's hilarious and right in line with what you're suggesting here. I just checked and google books doesn't have that chapter in their preview of The Grasshopper Trap...boo! He claims you're set once your significant other refers to your gun collection as "all those guns" since there's no number attached and it's easy to add another without them noticing. I have to admit I've been working toward having my wife talk about "all those lenses" I own. Maybe someday... ;-)

Hi all,
Santa would have liked to put a D800 in my stocking, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.
"All the lenses" looks like a good idea. I hope it works.
As it is, I'm pretty content.
My best to all,
Mike

Looks like I just got mine early. Ebay-ed a Tokina 300mm f2.8 AT-x for $1,100.
X-mass is done for me this year. Now to sell some stuff I have been meaning to pay it off.

The day I bought home my brand new 70-200 2.8VR2 (on the camera, not in the box, to make it look old!) my wife was sitting in the living room, looked at the camera/lens combo in my hand and said "ooh, that's a big one!" and carried on reading the paper!!!! Luckiest escape of my life :-) Ignorance really is bliss.

Santa came early here as well, got my Nikon AF-S VR 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED Micro. Loving every minute with it.

I love that story, SkintBrit. Brilliant thinking and I may have to use that sometime.

Wow Christmas came early for a lot of people this year and what gifts! Mike, Lenses are always the way to go anyways right? :)

Nothing from Nikon for me this Christmas, maybe a variable ND filter though.

After 6 fixed lenses and 8 zoom lenses, I got to that stage. For me it is easier to introduce a new lens than a cheap umbrella for my flash.

Not Nikon, but photo related: I got a blu-ray burner on black Friday bundled with new video editing software (vegas movie studio 11 platinum) for $90 total. I've been doing DVD backups of photos for years, and it might sound silly, but having 25GB per disc feels so much more convenient than DVDs.
Also, I may get an iPhone 4s. I've never had a cell phone (I do use my wife's at times) and I think the time has finally come.
And a nikon rumors t-shirt.

I've changed my wishlist from my earlier post. I thought I wanted a Speedlight, but have since changed my mind and have now asked Santa for the Nikon 40mm AFS DX F2.8 Macro. For $279, the reviews seem like the perfect close up lens for someone like me. I currently use the 18 - 200 VR II, which for me is a good choice for someone who doesn't want to change lenses often. But, I do sometimes want to take a picture of something 1:1 and this lens seems to be the right ticket.........

Whew, I thought I was the only troglodyte. I have a cell phone but not a modern smart phone. It can receive texts, but cannot send them very well and makes calls. That is the whole repertoire of its actions. I've had it for 5 years now, doesn't skip a beat and I can go almost a week between charges. My friends think I'm insane, but I think it's one of the best cell phones I've ever had.
I don't need a smart phone, but I'm sure you'll enjoy yours.

I've got a strange feeling that I'm gonna get a Nikon 80-400mm lens. My wife's co-worker uses this lens whenever she goes on exotic vacations with her husband. They've been to Africa 2 times already. This co-worker apparently has been telling my wife that I should have this lens and she's brought it up twice in the last few months - the last time one week ago. Honestly, I don't think I'd use it a lot but you know what they say about looking a gift horse..... We'll see.

I'll PM my wife's number to you to share with your wife...
A D800, my birthday is in July, timing _should_ be about right, but Valentines, St. Patrick's Day, May Day, Armed Forces Day, you know, any port in a storm.
My best,
Mike
