Kanuck, thats why they invented insurance. Maybe I should get the Canon lens mug. That way it would never get around my real equipment :)

Nikkor 400mm F/2.8 VRII. But it's not going to happen, because I need a new computer first. That Mac Pro will set me back quite a lot.

I'd also like the new 28-300mm Zoom-Nikkor to put with my D3S or D700. Seems like a strange choice - but it's a perfect lens for many situations. No need to take 2 cameras with different lenses any more.

Hey Treckie thats not a bad idea, about the canon mug haha. I hear the detail on the mugs are really something. Avro, the new 28-300mm is wonderful especially for use on a second body. Other than easily fixable distortion, the lens is wondeful.

That's what I'm thinking - the 28-300mm can be a good all-purpose lens for those times when I don't need full 400mm, but I might also need anywhere between 50mm and 300mm. And it looks very small and light - so much less conspicuous than a D3S and 200-400mm combo! (or a D3S and 70-200 F/2.8).

But first, the Mac Pro is desperately needed to replace my dead PC. I'm currently using an old iMac for photoshop CS5, and it struggles a bit.

I've been working essentially two jobs lately and it's really sucked, but it's not going to matter on the 11th when I pick up my 70-200 f/2.8 VRII. Thanks self-Santa! ;)

I've only had mine a few months, but I have to say it's worth working 3 jobs for! Everything good you've heard about it is justified.

Maybe a D800 of a late christmas present..... In the mean time I'd like a pinhole body cap for my trusty old D200.

You could experiment by buying a couple of cheap body caps and drilling holes into it.

Nothing wrong with "self-Santa-ing" haha especially when it comes to camera goodies^^

The 70-200mm VR II lens rates as the highest tested lens of any Nikkor right now according to DXO. It tops a lot of pretty amazing lenses as well including the legendary 85mm. Of course, all tests are done with a D3X body so take it for what is worth I guess. I'm sure the 70-200mm VR II is worth every penny. The original was amazing for me I just couldn't deal with the weight anymore.

Avro speaking of the 200-400mm, have you had the chance to shoot with it before? Its incredible. Its like using an 85mm lens or other expensive prime lens it is so sharp. Even get amazing 3D Bokeh it's unreal all the way to 400mm. I used 400mm for a portrait once and its one of my best shots I think. Oddly enough the 300mm prime never blew me away the same way the 200-400 did.

Getting s D7000 as a second body. I also ordered the Nikkor 28-300mm VRII lens. I tried the lens for a few days and liked it. Great for when I just want to carry one lens and I'll get a reach (FOV) of 450mm on the D7000.

I borrowed one of those for a weekend - it was very, very good. Superb lens:

Bokeh and sharpness is very nice. D700 and 70-200mm F/2.8G VR II for those.

Yes, it's my standard lens that I use. I've had it for over a year now and I've used it a lot. Absolutely love the superb quality of that lens. I even use it with TC-14E II and TC-17E II and autofocus works properly with those (on FX cameras). I quite love it. It's sharp too.

    My lot is currently:
    D700+grip
    D3S
    24-70 F/2.8G
    200-400mm F/4.0G
    300mm F/4.0
    SB-900
    Manfrotto 055X Pro B
    Manfrotto 685B Neotec
    Wimberley Tripod Head Version II

I don't really need 70-200mm F/2.8G - so I tend to borrow that lens when I do have the rare need for it - I can't justify AUD$3200 for something I'll rarely use.

D3S and the 200-400mm are quite a superb combination put together, especially in low light. Wimberley Head helps too. The whole lot is very well balanced. But my absolute favourite is the 24-70mm lens - it is the finest I've ever used.

Wow maybe I should ask Santa to be avro just for a day then! haha Amazing stuff. I borrowed the 200-400mm for a job and at the same time rented the 300mm for $350 per day, and I am ruined now because they were so fantastic especially the 200-400.

Just an extra battery for the D5000. All the other stuff I want is too expensive for anyone to get me :(

Lol I would just prefer cash towards new lenses, but no one wants to give money. If we didn't go visit my family I could buy a new 105 f2.8 hmmmm...might have to sacrifice the family times next year ;)

    I'm asking for a 35mm f1.4 and a 85mm f1.4, but I wouldn't mind if Santa brought me just a 85mm f1.8.

This year I simply want the new 50mm 1.8 G lens I think I'll keep it simple, but that would change if the D800 is annouced then Santa would have to work a miracle for me! How about others on here? What will you be getting/asking for Christmas this year? :)

I think the rumored 85 1.8G will be interesting if true. Specifically, I'd like to see if they add nanocrystal coating to it. If it's in the $500-600 price range, I might get it next spring but probably not for Christmas. Would that make you rethink the 50 1.8G purchase, kanuck?

Are you saying you'll get a D7000, NSX? You will love it if you do.
